WHEN YOUR PARENTS DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU

Ok, judging by the title, I'm guessing you probably just screamed "OMG YES!" At your phone or computer screen. I didn't write that chapter to make my parents upset or anything, of course, but I wrote it 'cause we all have that moment when we feel like they are so far off they're in outer space! If you have ever felt like that, thank you! I'm not the only one!

Now, my parents are pretty great. They're divorced so I see one more than the other and I'm constantly in between houses, but I don't mind that as much. They were just better friends than they were husband and wife.

My mother is my whole world. Without her I'd be lost. I'm not saying that because she's probably reading this, I'm saying that because it's 100% true. She's probably going to roll her eyes when she reads this but... she's like my best friend. I know, parents aren't supposed to be your friend, but she really is. We have wayyy too many inside jokes and we watch movies all day and we have so much in common that we can actually imitate each other's voices! Also, whenever I have a friend sleepover they always tell me how much they love my mom because she's just so obnoxious.

My father is pretty awesome too. My mother is where I get my reading and writing skills and my father gave me my singing skills. However, both of my parents are math teachers, so you'd think that I'd be really good at math but NOPE. That is simply not the case. My father comes to my mom's house and tutors me in geometry everyday though so I'm doing ok in math this year 👍🏼. My father is also really funny and is also pretty sensitive to me as well as other people that he is really close to. He has a girlfriend that he's been dating for like 4 years and I LOVE HER! Her name is Melissa and she's just AWESOME. I also get along pretty well with her three kids: Addi (9), Malia (13), and Cam (18).

Now that you know my parent's background, here's an example of them misunderstanding me...

*Alarm goes off*

I ignore it.

*goes off again*

I ignore it and fall back asleep.

My mother yells "KELLY, ARE YOU AWAKE?!?"

I yell back "YES!" Even though I'm really not.

My mother then takes my phone because I was "up all night on snapchat." Which is SOO not true! No offense mom, I love you ❤️.

Now, my mother takes away my phone A LOT 😡. It's not because I'm irresponsible, it's simply because I'm on it a lot cuz hey, iPhone's are ADDICTIVE. Especially since I have the iPhone 8 plus and it's like 8 months old so it's decently new.

Now, my father...

Addi: KELLY UR SUCH A BITCH

Me: EXCUSE ME WHO ASKED U?!?! GET OUT OF MY ROOM!

Addi: MAKE ME

Me: *yells* DAD ADDI WONT LEAVE MY ROOM

Addi: *rolls eyes and yells* JAMIE GET DOWN HERE

Dad: WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON DOWN HERE?!?!

Me: ADDI WONT LEAVE

Addi: KELLY IS BEING UNFAIR

Dad: KELLY, GIVE ADDI LIKE 20 MORE MINUTES.

If you have a younger sibling... you probably feel my pain! 😂😂

Now, we all have these moments when we feel like our parents are out to get us when really they are just trying to teach you. Soon I will be leaving my house and getting my own and I will have a job and a family. By that point I will read this over again and remember that when my parents were trying to help me or teach me I probably needed it. Thank you mom and dad ❤️.
