The Uber took us to Vauxhall and to a club called Gem, Lani and Faith had been there before, but me never, obviously because it was my first time in a club. In the car I was talking way too much and I think I was beginning to annoy the girls but I guess I was tipsy, but the twenty minute ride seemed to sober me up by the end of it, when we all got out. Also the fact we had to wait in the longest line possible to get in didn't help. I wanted to be gone, away from myself, but the sober me was cautious, shy and afraid. I felt the vodka in my pocket and whipped it out.
"Want any?" I asked cheekily, they turned and looked at me in surprise.
"Good thinking girl." Faith said taking the bottle and having a swig before passing it to Lani.
"I know, I'm sobering up already" I told them.
"Well drink up cos, the drinks in here are fucking expensive" Lani said. I nodded like an innocent schoolgirl. She passed the bottle back to me and I took the longest gulp ever, I drank practically half the bottle, the girls didn't notice, I turned away from them cos I thought I was about to heave. I stopped and wiped my mouth from the strong spirit and squeezed my face from the foul taste, it's not right, but at least it gets the job done. As I looked up, I saw a guy in line behind, watching me. He was tall black, wearing a blue checked shirt. He wasn't watching me boldly but I could see him on the sly watching me chug down the drink like a wino. When he caught my eye he smiled a cocky arrogant smile then sized me up but not in a flirtatious way. It made me feel like dirt, but I didn't care cos in about ten minutes I'd be drunk again and of forgotten him. I turned back to my friends who were stood chatting.
"Remember girls, if you speak to James, we never went out okay, we just had a sleepover." Faith warned us.
"Noted" Lani said.
"Gotcha." I told her. "This line is taking forever" I said, it wasn't terribly cold but the standing around for ages, gave a bit of a chill.
"This just means it's really good. Trust me Sade you don't wanna go into an empty club, it's the saddest thing." Lani reassured.
"That's true, but are all clubs seriously like this?" I asked, cos I had no idea.
"Aw you have no clue. Such a club virgin." Faith mocked. Lani laughed. It were the little patronising comments like that, that irritated me, and the snickers they gave. I should be getting drunker soon, so I was less irked, but I was sure the guy behind had heard Faith and it made me feel embarrassed, I took a quick glance back, but not quick enough, he looked at me again, oh but not after checking Lani and Faith out. I quickly turned back round and rubbed my arms together, I just wanted to go in already but I was suddenly wishing I'd finished my dinner, cos I was starving. That delicious chicken and those chips, why did I have to skip it?
"Pass the drink" Faith asked. I handed her the almost finished bottle. She looked at me in shock
"She's almost bloody finished all of it!" She yelled, Lani turned and saw and we all laughed.
"It would just be a waste otherwise." I said shrugging my shoulders. Faith and Lani finished what was left and dumped the bottle into a nearby bin. After another ten minutes we were finally in! We went through an almost airport security like process, checking bags, these things they use that buzz when its put near your body, even some dogs, but I guess that's to be expected in London these days.
