"I'm leaving now." I said, standing in the doorway of my kitchen with my bag slung around my shoulder. My mother turned around in her chair at the breakfast bar, her blond hair fell over her shoulder as she stared right back at me. My mom was like my sister, we looked a lot alike, blond hair, hazel eyes, and the same amount of shortness. But she looked her age which kind of ruled out the sister part.

"Alright, have fun, Danielle." She smiled, blowing me a kiss and turning back to her breakfast. Just as she was turning, someone had knocked on the front door.

"Coming!" I yelled at the door. I rushed for the door and pulled it open to see my best friend giving me a goofy smile.

"Luke!" I squealed, wrapping my arms around his neck as he did the same to my waist. I breathed in his familiar scent, he naturally kind of smelt like vanilla.

"Danielle!" He laughed at my excitement.

Luke Hemmings had been my best friend for years. I was born here in Sydney, Australia but my dad's job demanded that he moved us to just outside of Los Angeles, United States of America when I was 11. My parents got a divorce less than a year ago and my mom decided to move back to Sydney to be back with our family and friends. Now, here I am, just about to start my very last year of high school and reunited with my best friend.

Luke changed a lot since I left. Of course we Facetimed and Skyped but not even his iPhone camera could explain how attractive the boy had gotten. Before I left, Luke was a weirdo. He had blond hair that was too long for his head shape, he wore ugly fluorescent green sunglasses, and wasn't exactly the skinniest, tallest, or much of a buff kid. Now, the boy was partially ripped, he had no glasses, he towered over me, he had recently gotten his lip pierced, and his hair was quiffed perfectly and out of his face. But he still had the same blue eyes I had grown to love. I know that kind of sounded like a had a little crush on him but Luke and I are strictly friends, no feelings for each other any whatsoever and I wouldn't have it any other way.

"So, are you ready for the first day of your senior year?" Luke asked excitedly, he pulled away, gripped my shoulders, and looked into my eyes.

"Of course!" I smiled. I think he was more excited than I was.

"You sure you haven't forgotten anything? You had breakfast, right?" Luke interrogated. Luke acted like my mom most of the time and I appreciated it, but sometimes it was a little much. I admit I get a little out of hand at times but for the most part, I'm a pretty well-behaved kid.

"Yes! I have everything, now can we go? I want to meet your friends!" I laughed at him. He smiled back at me and lead me to his car.

Luke told me all about his friends all the time when we talked, he especially liked telling me about Calum. Luke was quiet and didn't really acossiate with people very often, sometimes I felt like I was his only friend. I was hoping that something good would come out of my family moving to America, and I hoped that the good would be that Luke would be forced to make new friends. I was right, because he met Calum and they've been friends ever since. Luke says most of time they hang out in the basement and sing along to either one or both of them playing the guitar. It sounded really sweet and I was hoping I could sit and watch them jam out sometime.

We finally got close enough to the high school that I could take in its appearance. It was brown on the outside with three floors and tons of windows and skylights. Everyone was outside on the lawn in their small groups, just chatting away and getting caught up with each other before classes started. Luke pulled into a parking spot and we made our way towards the front of the school.

"Calum is going to meet us down by the cafeteria. We have to find our names on this big list for our home room class. Everyone crowds around the same list in the front foyer and we don't want to get trampled just to find our home room..." Luke kept talking to me as we walked but I was far too focused on everything going on around me.
