Arya' s POV
"So where exactly are we going?"
There were 5 others with me. These were wounded, some had splints like mine, a bit shabby yes, but it could hold on till they could get themselves checked. The van looked like a typical police van. Lined with benches against its wall, a bit old and rusty. Uncomfortable on the bumpy roads.
"Why ma'am do you always have so many questions inside your head?" the cheeky nurse replied.
I didn't know what to make of him. He seemed kind and gentle (they are trained to be so) but this one is mostly interested in monologues and certainly doesn't like questions. I figured that out in the beginning.
"Why does anyone ask? Simple; Curiosity."
We had done everything that needed to be done; I was unconscious during most of the crash. But after it, was my most active part. I had helped about a bit and that's when I put a few things in order.
1) We crashed on an island.
2) There wasn't an island in the North Atlantic. So what is this place?
3) My mobile phone was dead (good thing I hadn't had the headsets on when we crashed).
4) And now we are heading to somewhere safe on this island.
I wondered how Amaira was doing - Hopefully not as bad as me. She would be worried sick if she had heard about the crash, so would baby. I have to contact them somehow. You see, all my luggage was left on the plane. No food, No passport, No identification available, NO PHONE. My Worst nightmare has come true. Now what am I going to do?
Most people, at this juncture, would call me silly. I should be grateful for having survived the crash but no, what is worse than dying is -being assumed to be dead and yes I mean it. I do really hope that there are many heads to count as injured than as dead.
The van screeched to a halt. We are here. Where ever 'here' is.
The van doors opened and slowly more helpers and volunteers had managed to come around to lend a hand.
That's good.
The nurse helped me down. He firmly kept a hold at the elbow and took me inside. The 10 storey building was pretty much like any other building. But a building this tall on the island must have been easy to spot. Why did I miss it? Maybe it was far away from the site where we crashed.
The flight attendant along with her colleague was walking the other way, away from the building. I wanted to call out to her.
"Uh- uh." The nurse tugged at my sleeve, or what was left of it. "This way ma'am."
A mental note to myself. Next time ask HER name.
We slowly walked up to the door. The building on the outside was very normal, The sign board "Pete's care hospital' was the only one that said that it was a hospital. It was maybe a bit old- like the 1990s... The inside was a total contrast.
It had a stunning interior. The walls had a shade of aesthetic blue while the monitors on the wall kept showing the availability of the doctors for consultation. The reception area had a semicircle desk behind which three women were seated, busy on the phone. The ground area was wide and spacious. All the people in the uniforms were in a hurry. In and out they moved in a buzz. New Patients were pouring in through the main door.
"Wait here a minute." He turned in the direction of the reception."And in case if anyone asks you anything, say you are under my charge"
I opened my mouth to speak something when he cut me off.
"By the way, I am Danny, or that's what people call me here." He left.
It was all strange in the beginning. I never let the fact that I had been a survivor get to me but now, the reality was sinking in. Even though it was all a daze, I had been through it. Like it or not, I had survived. For the very first time after "Landing" here, I felt relieved. I was alive.
"The doctor will see you now. I am afraid you might need a surgery." Danny had returned. Let's first get you to the x-ray department..."
"Wait, Shouldn't I fill any form to get myself treated...like who-"
"Not now, we need to see how bad your fracture is...you are holding up well, but from the way I see it, It might be worse. The wound in your leg too needs some stitching work. All I did was the first aid."
We got into the elevator and headed towards the 4th floor. As we stepped out of the elevator, something was off. I was hearing some sound- Like I hadn't heard it before.
"Ah! Doctor" The Nurse called out."Here's the patient you asked for."
Asked for? Do doctors get to choose their patients?
I hadn't actually looked in the direction of the doctor the nurse was referring to . When I did, I realized what the sound that I had heard from before was. It was my heartbeat. Only it was never this loud or this fast. It was also out of its rhythm.
THE DOCTOR.I had no words.
No- I mean yes. He was very handsome and young. I have very high standards mind you. But this feeling -it was as if I knew him. He, well he..wait why am I feeling dizzy? I see black dots...
"Breathe" He said in a deep voice.
A voice that made my mind blank, A voice that made me follow his words like a military command. A voice that sent a chill down my spine and at the same made me jump like a kid (on the inside). The heat of the blue flame and the bite of the ice. Funny thing, it also made me angry.
I couldn't figure out whether I was angry at the sound of his voice or at myself for holding my breath. I knew one thing for certain. This was just the beginning of whatever that was to follow.
