The Bookcase

As Y/N and I ride off into the forest  again I say "Guess he wasn't hostile after all."
Y/N laughs. "Maybe he put a tracker in our horses and is following us right now." I laugh this time.

When we reach the end of the forest again I stop. "Wow." Y/N says. "What is it?" I ask. "I've never seen a mall in real life." She replies. I grinn. "We could go in." I say. Y/N looks at me and I nod. She doesn't hesistate and rushes to the entrance. Y/N jumps from her horse. I laugh out loud as I follow her. She looks at me before running through the glass door, it's broken. Before I enter I get a flashback from the last time I went to a mall with a girl, she died. I shake my head and run in as well. Y/N is standing at the stairs that lead down. She is looking at all the shops. When I'm next to her, she points to one. A book store. "Let's check  it out, maybe we find enough to go home." I say Y/N smiles. We walk down the stairs, silently. When we enter the book store, It almost looks like the infected never happened, everything is clean and nothing looks broken. 'I don't trust this.'  I think. I Take my rifle and aim it, just to be sure. As I step in I hear something break under my feet. Glass. Y/N also took her gun out. We sneak in, staying low to the ground, checking every corner. But there is nothing in the store. I sigh and stand up. "I think it's clear." I say. although I keep the gun in my hand. Y/N walks to one of the shelves, and picks up a book. She shows it to me. I don't regonize it. "It's F/B. I read it when I was young." She says. She puts it in her bag and continues looking at the books. I walk to a shelve and let my fingers slide across the back of the book, until I stop. Everything in alphabetical order, except for this one. I take it off the shelve, but stop when I hear a click. I aim my rifle at the bookcase. When The bookcase opens a little bit, I walk back. I search for Y/N but can't see her and also don't want to yell. When the door completely opens a little girl steps out, she is holding a teddy bear. I let the gun down. I walk over to her but she flinches. I crouch down to get the same hight as her. She walks over to me and starts crying. Y/N hear this and comes around the corner. "Ellie, what?" I sush her as I take the girl into my arms. After a few minutes, a man steps out, aiming a gun at me. Y/N instantly aims her gun at the man, who switches to aiming at her. "Let her go." he says as he switches back to me. I let go of the girl and stand up. "Hand on your head!" He says. I do as he says but Y/N doesn't. "Y/N, put the gun down." I say. She looks at me and back at the man who is stressing out. "Do as she says!" The man yells. Y/N drops the gun and puts her hands on her head. "We don't want to hurt you." She says. "We just wanted to check out the books." The man aims at Y/N while she says that. "How did you know it?" He asks me. "What?" The man looks angry but also scared. "The door, the book how did you know?" I shake my head. "I didn't I just noticed it wasn't in alphabetical order, and took it out." I say as I flinch when he puts the gun closer to my head. I hear some glass break behind me and look back. A woman entered the shop, also with a gun. she aims it at Y/N. "Sir, we're not here to hurt you, we're just looking for books for our own town" I say. the man lets the gun down. "Explain further." He says as he signals that I can get up. "The books where we live are almost falling apart, we need new ones for the kids." I say. the woman now lets her gun down to. And then BANG.

I drop myself to the floor. So does Y/N. The man doesn't get down, he looks down. Blood is dripping from his stomach. He puts his hand on it and looks at his hand, seeing the big amount of blood coming from him. He falls to his knees and I get up, BANG. Another shot get's fired. Just missing me, I run to one of the bookcases and stand behind it. The man is now on the floor. 'Where is the kid?'  I think. I look around and see her behind the door of the secret chamber. I look at the woman, who signals for me to run to that door, she does the same for Y/N. I run and another shot get's fired, it brushes past my arms and hits the wall after. I dive into the room and wait for Y/N. The woman gets in first, no shots fired at her. Then I hear another BANG. And a scream, and I hear someone falling. "Y/N, NO!" Without thinking I run out, dodging one bullet and grabbing Y/N's hands. I drag her to the door, the woman does the same with the man and closes the door. It's too dark to see what is happening. The woman grabs a flashlight and turns it on, pointing it at Y/N. I see blood the side of her stomach. "no, no Y/N. I'm going to fix this." I say, tears rushing down my face. I put my hands on the wound, to apply pressure.  "I promise."

Y/N's P.O.V

When I hear the shot I get behind the door. I see Ellie drop down on the floor, the woman quickly jumps behind a bookcase. I look at the man, who didn't drop. he stays up, looking at his hand. It is covered in blood. He now drops to his knees. Ellie gets up and another shot gets fired, I squeal but Ellie doesn't get hit. She is now standing behind a bookcase. I see the kid is in the door. The woman signals to me and Ellie that we have to run for the door. Ellie goes, and a shot gets fired. It brushes her arm but she makes it. I sigh in relief. the woman also makes a run for it but there are no shots fired at her. I take a deep breath in and run, But I stop, And feel a hard pain in my side. I put my hand on it and feel it's wet, I look at my hand and drop to the floor. I try to keep my eyes open but I struggle. "Y/N, NO!" I hear. Before I know it somebody grabs my hands and drags me into the dark. "No, No Y/N, I'm going to fix this." she says as he puts her hand on my side, The last thing I see is Ellie crying and saying: "I promise" then my vision goes black.
