I lay down on the couch, waiting for my brother to get home. I was watching the news. "It is currently 8:00 PM, and we have some breaking news." The news reporter said. "A school bus has gotten into an accident. The bus tumbled and landed upside down." I quickly grabbed the TV remote and turned the volume up. "There are 16 high school students injured and 8 middle schoolers reported dead." Suddenly, the TV screen turned to static. "Ah, great." I mumbled. I threw myself back onto the couch and stared at the ceiling. The clock was ticking loudly.
Tick, tock.
Tick, tock.
I turned my head to look at the obnoxiously loud clock.
8:25 PM.
As I was about to fall asleep, I heard the door knob unlock. My brother opened the door and slammed the door shut as soon as he got in the house. I sat up and watched him as he rushed around to take off his jacket and unpack. "Hector, what's going on?" I asked, yawning.
"It's nothing..." My brother was breathing heavily, as if he had just ran away from a monster.
"You sure? You're being really "rushy"." I got up from the couch and walked over to him.
"Of course I'm sure. Why would I lie to my little sis?" He came over to me and ruffled my hair.
I caught a glimpse of fear in his hazel green eyes. As I looked at him a little closer, I could see dark red blood on his white shirt. It looked fresh. "Hey... Is that your blood?" I pointed at the blood stains on his top.
He shook his head. "Ain't mine. C'mon let's get out of here..."
Hector picked me up and held me protectively in his arms. "Where are we going?" I ask him.
He gave a slight nod and ran outside with no luggage or anything. I heard a loud explosion from the city, which was just a couple blocks down from our house. I turned my head to the left, the direction of the big city. Smoke and fire burst into the air, making it awfully hot.
"Brother? What's going on?!" My hands and legs were shaking, and my heart was pounding in my chest.
"There's been an infection... Parasite or whatever. All of the people in the city have been infected." Hector explained with a calm voice.
I nodded, trying to stay calm.
I don't know how he managed to say that in such a relaxed and calm way.
He got us into the car and started driving downtown, where it was a lot safer then the city. I saw a lot of cars ahead, and I had a really bad feeling about it.
