Zaia's POV:

"Here," Adonis said while handing me some folded clothes.

I silently smiled as a thank you and walked off into the direction of my room. Expecting the clothes to be Adonis' , I put them close to my nose, hoping to inhale his intoxicating scent. Instead, I was met with a sweet floral smell.

Hesitantly, I unfolded the clothes and was dumbfounded at what I saw. It was an oversized women's t-shirt and a pair of jogging bottoms with the pink Adidas stripes going down the side.
Why would he have women's clothes?
Is this what Ariana was talking about when she said his last girlfriend?
Were these clothes hers?

As per usual, my mind was circled with questions but I decided to ignore them as I didn't want to bother him, after all, it was 11:40 at night and the house was eerily silent.

I lay in bed until I finally succumbed to the darkness of sleep.

I jumped out of bed and automatically ran to the cot, grabbing my screaming baby brother. His screams failed to cease as I rocked and cradled him. This was the first time he had ever done this, Zack usually stopped crying when I held him.

After a while, I too began to cry. Why wouldn't he stop?
"Please Zacky, please stop crying. They might kick us out!" I pleaded.

Suddenly, the door swung open to reveal Linda in her nightgown.
"Aww, give him to me, you go to sleep."
And without another word, she took him from me and walked away.

Stunned, I stood rooted to the spot, not knowing what to do. I was even more stunned to see Adonis walk over to the door, his hair scruffy, just how I liked it, his glasses off and his biceps on show.
Holy mother of drooling.

His eyes widened when he saw me and he lazily rubbed them.
"Katelyn?" He whispered. Huh? Who's Katelyn?

"Who's Katelyn?" I asked, so clearly confused.
The Nerd boy's eyes widened once again before he said, "Oh right, Zaia. Are you okay?"
He avoided the question.

Deciding not to push it further, I replied to him.
"Yeah, I'm good. Your mum just took Zack 'cause he was crying."
"Are you sure? You look like you've been crying," shit. I didn't realise that the tears had slowed down but not come to a stop.
"Uhm... yeah, today's just been a lot to take in, you know?" I replied, not fully looking him in the eye.

"You know you can talk to me... whenever you need to get something off your chest, I may be the Nerd but I can be a friend if the 'mean girls' get too much. Right now, you seem like you need to talk. You may not want it, but you need it."
How was is possible that he had such power with his words. Searching for any slight falter, I made eye contact with him. I desperately searched his eyes for any proof of lies but found none. He was telling the truth.

Then it all flooded on me. I so suddenly burst into tears and fell to my knees. Adonis ran over and held me, he slid his arms under my knees and carried me to the bed. Laying down next to me, he pulled over the covers. The heaters in the house were no match for December weather, especially in the UK.

I cried into his chest, clutching his black tank top with one hand and the duvet with the other.

Obviously, I was aware that we were in a bed... alone... together... but I didn't mind.

Adonis' POV:

She fell asleep, tears trickling down her soft cheeks. Throughout the night, Zaia snuggled closer to me, gripping my top for dear life.
It's amazing how someone so pure can have a life so sad.

I was awoken by the sun shining trough the curtains and hitting my eyes. We need new ones. It took me a while to notice that I wasn't in my room and was, in fact in the guest room with Zaia's face in the crook of my neck.

I looked over at the clock on the bedside table, it was 6:00 in the morning, Friday morning.

Reluctantly, I nudged Zaia, hoping to wake her. She groaned in response.
"Zaia c'mon we have to get ready for school."

At the sound of my voice, she shot up and her entrancing hazel eyes widened at the sight of me.
"Adonis?" She breathes out, I could tell by her facial expression that all the memories from last night were coming back.
"Oooh, right... uhm... I'm up," she nervously babbled before practically leaping out of the bed and running straight to the bathroom.

Lightly chuckling, I walked to my room to get my phone and then it hit me.
She didn't have a phone.

I heard the bathroom door unlock and Zaia emerged in my doorway with a sheepish smile. Please don't be on your period. Please don't be on your period. Please don't be on your period.
"I need a toothbrush," I let out a breath o didn't realise I was holding and walked to the bathroom with Zaia in tow. Giving her a quick smile, I opened a drawer and took out a pack of toothbrushes.

"Pick whichever you like, we'll get you an electric one this weekend... oh and a phone. You need a phone!" She look stunned but I left her in the bathroom and went to brush my teeth in the downstairs toilet.

It's not that I had a problem with a girl being on her period or anything, it was that it would be awkward between us for her to tell me because we weren't exactly best friends.

***

I came downstairs to Zaia already dressed, she had helped herself to the kitchen, which I didn't mind and had poured herself some cereal and made herself a cup of tea.
"Sorry I didn't make you any, I didn't know what cereal you would want and I didn't want it to go soggy," she smiled shyly while putting a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

"Nah, it's cool, so you wanna take the bus or we can hitch a ride with my friend Liam? His older sister has a car," I asked while eating some coco pops.

"Which would you rather do?" God, shes so kind it's a shame she's friends with the wrong people *cough cough* Widdowson.
"I'll call Liam, I'm sure you guys will get along." And with that, I picked up my iPhone 8 and called my best friend.

Around 10 minutes later, deafening music came from the street. I rolled my eyes and motioned for Zaia to grab her bag and follow me.

We walked out of the house and into the driveway, not giving any warning, I opened the front passenger door, which Liam was sitting in. I leaned over him and turned the music down. Both Liam and Leena rolled their eyes in sync.

"I hope you guys don't mind one more passenger for today 'cause I've got one and wait- I don't care if you mind so whatever," I shrugged as I slapped the back of Liam's head.

Giving Zaia, who had now fully submerged from behind me, a reassuring smile, I opened the back door and motioned for he to get in.

"OH MY GOD ITS THE NEW GIRL!" Liam screamed, obviously on a mission to wake everyone up.
"Shut up Liam, I'm pretty sure fucking David Beckham heard you!" I scolded, giving Zaia an apologetic look.

"And yes, this is Zaia, she'll be riding with us from now on," I stated.
"She can ride on- I mean with me- I mean us- as long as she likes," Liam smirked. Jealousy bubbled inside of me. Of course I liked Zaia and I don't like the fact that she's supposedly with Widdowson, or 'penis' as Liam likes to call him. But I don't want her with my best friend either.

"Oh and only if you don't mind Leena..." I smiled at her sheepishly.
Leena simply smirked and winked in my direction.
"Anything for you baby boy."

I sank further into my seat and groaned. Zaia seemed shocked and flustered and confused all in one. This was going to be a long ride to school.

A/N:
