Dinner was a range of Charlie introducing me to people I might and might not remember, to people coming up to me while eating my garden burger saying they remember when I was 'this tall'. I might as well had a sign that said Charlies Daughter! Come talk about how you remember me! around neck.
The food was good though, Charlie looked happy enough but I could see the annoyance starting to creep in his face when another person would approach me. Still he smiled at me, happy to be reunited with his daughter.
After dinner and my fanfare ended we drove silently back home. Arriving sooner than the ride from the airport and walking in the house.
''Well, I hope you enjoy your first night Bells.." Charlie said awkwardly, not really knowing what to do. He headed towards the TV. A football game probably playing.
I sauntered up to my room, checking my phone with surprisingly no messages from Renee and Paul. I changed out of my jeans and tee into my pajama pants and an old shirt and laid in bed. This felt like home, and it was my home now. Rain pattered softly against the window, and I drifted slowly to sleep.
I was in what looked like a classroom, the faceless teacher going on about chemicals and what to add into what. I couldn't focus on any of the students faces but I could tell I was wearing my favourite blue v neck with black jeans and brown boots. I looked to my left to see my partner was a beautiful boy with flawless skin, shoulder length auburn hair and golden eyes. He caught me looking at him and his slow smile revealed a set of sharp fangs that sank into the side of my throat..
I woke up with a start, my body torn up in the sheets. I told myself it was just a dream, that It was morning, the light rain and low sunlight showed that. I breathed out the breath I was holding in.
I took a quick shower, brushed my teeth, put on some clothes and went downstairs, the remains of the dream disappearing as I followed the smell of breakfast being cooked, but that couldn't be possible cause Charlie could barely catch a fish much less than cook.
To my surprise, Charlie had coffee brewing, pancakes cooking, and had eggs and uncooked bacon waiting on the counter to be cooked.
"Hey morning Bells, you want eggs, sausage or bacon?" he asked smiling at my arrival.
"I'll cook eggs" I said smiling. Mom was wrong, she lead me to believe Charlie couldn't even cook for himself but here he was making breakfast.
While I cracked the eggs and scrambled them in the pan Charlie talked lightly on the phone mumbling something about 'car' and 'school'. I shivered at the thought of school the next day, I still hadn't bought any supplies, and I was going to be walking in when school was already going on.
Charlie got off the phone as I scraped my eggs out of the pan to my plate. I joined him at the kitchen table and we ate in silence for awhile. I took a bite into my eggs and chewed happily on the pancakes. Renee was definitely wrong about Charlie, the pancakes were amazing.
"So" Charlie said wiping his mouth, his eyes glancing toward the door. "I bet you need to buy some stuff for school"
I cringed at the idea of my dads cruiser driving me to the school each day, or walking a good 3 miles to Forks High School. "Yeah, some notebooks and maybe some clothes." I replied, "Breakfast was good" I added to let him know he wasn't a horrible cook.
He had a smile on his face that looked like it had nothing to do with the compliment. "Why don't you look outside? There's one last surprise for you"
I walk over to the kitchen window to see a light gray mustang parked behind Charlies cruiser. I started to tear up. "Dad... you didn't?.." It was less of a question and more of me sputtering words out.
"It's Billy's old car, he and his son fixed it up for you when they heard you were coming to stay for awhile" he said with a hand on my shoulder.
I walked out to inspect the car, Charlie right behind me. I thanked him a thousand times before he suggested we take it to get school supplies for tomorrow. We took a trip to a small store in town that with not much to offer, but had what I needed. I'd have to take a trip to town one of these days to buy some clothes.
On the way back to the house, an unfamiliar truck was waiting in the driveway.A closer look showed an old but strong looking man in a wheelchair , and a young Indian looking boy with long black hair.
The man in the wheelchair stood up and gave Charlie a pat on the back. "Good seeing ya again old coot" Charlie said jokingly. "Bella this Billy Black, and his son Jacob. You probably remember his sisters, they moved out awhile ago" Charlie explained.
"Thank you so much for the car" I said to them. Billy smiled
"It was mostly Jacob that worked on it, I couldn't do much but buy the parts" Billy said.
"Was pretty easy" Jacob said with a smile
Charlie invited them inside and he and Billy went to the living room to check out the game while Jacob and I caught up on how Forks was doing. Which sounded like the same, nothing changed except people had grown up.
Fortunately Billy and Jacob had to get ready to leave and meet someone. I gave Billy and Jacob a tight hug, my mind still pondering on how Forks High was going to be. Once they left I headed to my room. The clock reading later than I'd thought. I tried to mentally picture how well school would go and fell into a wondrous sleep,
