Limericks and Nonsense

"What a silly flight of stairs,
It has no magical airs;
Yet it moves about
No reason to shout
Just a silly flight of stairs."

Taehyung and Hoseok could not stop laughing.

Students passing by glanced at them as though they had gone mad, and Namjoon clutched Yoongi the cat firmly but gently to his chest, trying to pretend that he didn't know the two Hufflepuffs. Jimin walked a step behind them, unsure of what to do.

"Should Jimin join the laughter
Or hide his face, walk faster?
That's a dilemma.
Oh no, such drama!
He'll choose the choice that's clever."

By now, Hoseok was on the floor, rolling, while Taehyung clung on to the wall for support. Namjoon and Jimin glanced at each other. They could only assume that Yoongi had said something incredibly funny, but they had no way of knowing what it was. Well, at least until these two idiots composed themselves and translated.

Finally, Taehyung could breathe properly, and he wiped the tears from his eyes. His voice was hoarse when he spoke, "Yoongi hyung is being absolutely ridiculous. He's speaking only in poetry!"

"It's a limerick, you fool!
It's not even something cool.
You think I want this?
A torture this is
To always speak like a fool."

Hoseok managed to choke out what Yoongi said before collapsing in yet another fit of laughter. Namjoon frowned. He looked at the cat, "You know, hyung, I almost feel like you deserve to speak like this forever. Limericks are the best kind of poems!"

Taehyung giggled, "Well, according to him limericks are nonsensical and unnecessary."

"But that's the point! Nonsense verse is a very interesting subject of study."

Jimin put a hand on Namjoon's shoulder, "My dude, don't get worked up over this. This entire situation is ridiculous."

Just then Seokjin walked past the group. Taehyung and Jimin ran up to him and tackled him in a hug. They didn't see the seventh year Gryffindor very often, and now, on their trip to the neighbouring village of Hogsmeade, they could finally spend time with him. He greeted all of them very warmly, but when his eyes fell on Yoongi the cat, they hardened. He smirked evilly, "So, you've taken to cat form to avoid embarrassment, huh? Well, guess what?"

Before anyone could react, Seokjin had pulled out his wand and flicked it at Yoongi, whispering a spell. It hit him square on the chest, and it seemed as though Seokjin had hit 'unmute'.

"No, shit, no! Why? Why! Please, no!
Oh, Jin hyung, please let me go!
Limericks are good.
I have understood.
For them, respect I will show."

The younger boys were now all laughing so much, their cheeks hurt. Jimin looked like he was about to cry. Yoongi fell silent and transformed into human form. Jin looked at him, trying very hard not to laugh.

Hoseok, finally managing to compose himself, turned to the oldest amongst the six of them, "But tell us what happened, Jin hyung."

Jin looked around with a glint in his eye and the funny way in which he twisted his mouth gave away the fact that he was desperately trying to control his laughter.

"Well, you see, Yoongi and I were talking about poetry, and I mentioned that I love limericks, absolutely adore them. But, this guy here, He says they aren't real poetry. But what is poetry, if not the very thoughts and feelings of the poet? And what is this world, this life, if not a huge mess of beautiful nonsense that we are all striving to understand, to unravel, and make sense of?"

Yoongi stared at him, speechless.

"Gee, hyung, we didn't know you were into philosophy, or that you could be so good at it," Hoseok gaped at him with newfound respect.

"Wow, hyung! That was fantastic!"

"I didn't know you could change my opinions on limericks so easily!"

"Exactly! I was rather overjoyed that Yoongi hyung hates limericks too, but now, having heard you, it seems like he'll be the only one!"

Namjoon, Jimin, and Taehyung clamoured all together.

Seokjin looked at his friends, "Pipe down, you non-artists! You should know by now that I am good at everything I am into."

Suddenly, Seokjin felt a tug at his sleeve. He turned to find Yoongi looking at him with his adorable crescent eyes and gummy smile.

"Hyung, you have opened my eyes,
You have made me realise,
Changed my views today,
Limericks do slay.
Really, hyung, you tell no lies."

Seokjin smiled down fondly at the Slytherin and wrapped an arm around his shoulders. Then, he turned to the group of friends, "Well, let's find Jungkook and make our way to Hogsmeade! Butterbeer's on me!"
