↪MAE SOONG

"Amber, you're dumb," I giggle as I take another drag from my cigarette.

She laughs. "Alright, you say this now, Mae, but when you get married to some rich snob, I'll be there to say I told you so."

My phone rings as I throw my cigarette down on the sidewalk, squishing it with the heel of my shoe.

"Hello?" I say while answering my phone, Amber ruffling her velvety locks of hair.

"Mae Soong, where are you?" My father asks, his tone serious.

I mentally groan. "Father, I told you that I was hanging out with Amber today. I can go places, you know. I'm not a baby anymore."

Father clears his throat. "Don't stay out long like you did last night. And don't get drunk and crash yet another car."

I roll my eyes. "Goodbye, Father."

While hanging up the phone, I sigh. "My dad's being a prick again. I'm not even planning on getting drunk tonight."

Amber smirks, holding up a case of beers. "Really?"

I smirk, also, grabbing a beer out of the pack the same time as her.

We open our bottles and clink them together.

"To freedom," she cheers.

"To freedom," I cheer while chugging down half the bottle.

Amber and I stumble back into my house, a giggly and drunk mess.

"Y–You're...so drunk!" I giggle.

Amber hooted. "Yes, I am!"

I crash into something hard, I think it's a wall.

I look up and stare into the eyes of an unfamiliar man.

"Father, w–who is this guy?!" I cry, my head spinning.

I almost collapse but the mysterious man catches me.

"Are you okay?" He asks, his deep voice making me flinch.

A pool of heat swirls around in my stomach. "I—"

"Mae Soong!" I hear my father yell angrily.

I shut my eyes, exhaustion slowly taking over me.
