Sierra's eyes slowly opened as she took in her surroundings.
The sky was a pale morning blue around her, birds chirped and crickets sang. Was she in heaven? She didn't think a creature like her could go to heaven. She didn't even believe in heaven. But if it were real she wouldn't be there. Demons don't go to heaven, no matter how much of a saint they tried to be, they were still Demons.
She went to lift her arms when a wave of searing pain hit her full force, confirming she was in fact, very alive.
She looked down to a uneven, deep gash in her left hand. Bits of metal and glass were embedded in it making it sting more. She looked over to see Jake. He had a few scratches but overall was not hurt, badly at least.
She reached her right hand out slowly, shaking him awake. He stirred for a second and his eyes flew open. He gasped and looked over to see Sierra laying next to him, a relieved look on his face.
"Were alive." He gasped happily. Sierra smiled and painfully stood up helping him to his knees.
"Barely." she sighed.
She looked around. The hovercraft had missed them by only a few yards. The forest trees set a dark gloom over them which made Sierra shiver. Something wasn't right. The way the air smelled, the way the leaves rustled, it didn't sit well with her. Everything seemed unnaturally bright and cheerful. After a disaster of this level birds wouldn't be singing, and small animals wouldn't be scurrying across the forest floor. Unless, what she heard, wasn't birds or small animals.
Bits a pieces of the plain were scattered over the clearing.Sierra's head throbbed hard making her feel lightheaded. She went to tug at her shoulder, realizing she didn't have a parachute. Her brain whirled. She hadn't been using a parachute. She hadn't been using a parachute. If she hadn't been using a parachute, that meant-
A shout made her look up. She saw a figure walking towards them. It was Max. Sierra went to run but collapsed. A wave of unbearable pain ripped through her, much worse than the last one. Her stomach turned at the pain and her head throbbed. She looked down to see a huge gash down her whole leg. It cup deep, almost showing bone. She panicked and grabbed for the first aid kit but a hand grabbed it first.
"Let me." Max said pulling the bandage out of the kit. He tenderly wrapped her leg up and cradled it while doing so. He pulled back and looked over at Sierra. His eyes pierced through here and she felt like she was flying. He had a way of staring at you with his emerald green eyes that made you feel like nothing around you was real. They made you feel as if all you're life's biggest problems had just simply melted away. He made you feel like he was the only thing around you. Or maybe he just made Sierra feel that way. Either way, it was magical.
Max pulled himself up and held a hand out for Sierra.
"Is everyone else ok?" Sierra asked as Max helped her up.
"Not as nearly bad as you, but ok." Max said looking at her limping leg. Sierra glared as she swung her arm around Max's neck.
Jake was ok and so was everyone else. That's all that really mattered. They were like a real pack, protect the young. Sierra scoffed at that thought.
But perhaps it wasn't such an off thought. They were like a real pack, and in some ways had animal instincts. But they didn't have a fierce pecking order like a real wolf pack. They're wasn't an Alpha, Omega, or Beta. Just a bunch of wild wolves pissing everyone off and saving lives.
Better yet, a bunch of James Bond's just pissing everyone off.
As they headed towards everyone else Sierra got a sense they were being watched. She looked around, seeing nothing dismissed the thought. As they reached the rest of the group Sierra let out a sigh of relief as she saw no one was seriously hurt but her. She could tell everyone was jumpy, rightfully so. Noah sighed in relief as he saw her. The prince had barely a scratch.Go figure, she thought.
She sat down on a large hunk of metal, resting her hurt leg It was not good that she was so badly hurt. They had to get through the forests fast or they would be killed.
"We need to get back to civilization." The prince said. Everyone turned to look at him like an idiot. Well, he was and idiot, they were just acknowledging it.
"Do you want to be killed? You will be killed if we go back to civilization!" Sierra hissed, wiping the blood that made her forehead itch away crazily
The itching only made the wound bleed more, she wiped the blood on the side of her sleeve, a weird, thick wet sensation pooling on her arm. She smacked the wound hard, probably looking crazy as she scowled at the pain. Surprisingly, no more blood came.
"It's my kingdom! Why would MY subjects try to kill me!" he yelled back, standing up and trying to look threatening.
Noah grabbed his arm, scowling deeply. He sat back down quickly, panic clearly evident on his face.
"Aristia has spies in every kingdom!" Sierra yelled back, clenching her fists tightly. Who did this guy think he was? He had never worked a hard days work in his life, he had never fought, or taken time to pay attention in his classes about anything, and he suddenly thought he knew more than her?!
"And there are guards in every kingdom!" The prince hissed back, shaking Noah's hand off hastily and standing up again. This time Noah pushed him back to a sitting position, causing his to land hard on the shrapnel he had been sitting on. He stared up at Noah, his eyes wide with surprise.
"Aristia's have powers you idiot!" Sierra yelled standing up. Her leg gave out on her and she slipped landing on her head clumsily. She pulled her head up, and touching her hand to her nose she pulled it back and a trickle of black blood ran on her finger
"Is your hand ok?" Noah said walking over to her. She quickly covered her nose and stood up.
"Um, yeah.Thanks." She said quickly. He gave her a puzzled look.As she help onto to her nose tightly, she didn't notice a drop of blood escape from her grasp and fall onto the ground. Max stared at it with a strange look.
"Ha! Guys look Siers got black blood!" He laughed. The rest of the group joined in with the laughing.
She let out a relieved sigh and sat down. Opening her pack, she pulled out a first aid kit.She dabbed her nose with a cotton swab until the bleeding stopped.
"We should head deeper into the forest, whoever attacked us will probably be back soon to see what they caused." She insisted, struggling to stand up on her leg. Noah threw his arm around her and swung her up to her feet, immense pain radiating throughout her body vigorously. She winced harshly, gritting her teeth as hard as she could. She just wanted the pain to go away, it was unbearable. It was like her leg was on fire, every 3 seconds a new wave crashing over her skin and burning it again. The pain was unbearable, it was horrid, it was-
She paused, looking down at her leg in bewilderment. The pain had completely stopped. It was 100% gone. The wound was still very visible, but even it was starting to turn a pink color.
She silently panicked. Her mind swiveled in every direction. She was healing extremely fast. Too fast for any human, because she wasn't any human. It was starting, the awakening of her powers. They were starting to show, jumping without a parachute, the blood stopping, and now the pain stopping, she was turning faster than she had ever imagined.
Her breath became unbearably heavy, clouding her lungs in uncertainty of when the next breath was going to be. Her vision blurred, bright colors flashing before her eyes in a blinding whirl of rainbow. Every sound coming from the forest seemed a galaxy away, the uncontrollable buzz in her ears driving her mad. Her sense of direction became jumbled, and before she knew it, her face was racing towards the ground at an alarming speed. She didn't even have time to call out before her face collided with the ground. Not knocking her out immediately, but giving her time to noticed the sharp poking in the back of her mouth, the poking of fangs.
