A Decent Start

We both stood barefoot on the floor. That's the first time Matt had caught me with Kiku late one night. It had to been 3 years ago at this point and Matt hadn't said anything. Tonight Kiku was face down on the bed, snoring. It wasn't attractive but his face slightly squished made him look cute. Like a little baby. A bell tolled in the distance, making him stir. "Nanji desu ka (what time is it)" He asked, jet black hair covering his eyes.
"Midnight by the sound of that damn bell," I said
"Ameria I do have leave eventually," he said, getting out of the bed exposing my leg to the cold night air.
I sat up, my legs fully in the cold causing me to shiver, "I mean I leave at 3 most times and make it home at 4. Making a whole 2 hours more sleep."
"But my horse isn't as fast and I have an eary morning meeting with the Diamonds tomorrow." He countered
"Ok fine I don't want you to be late. My stepdad gets pretty upset when your late." I saw his point.
The Diamonds were two kingdoms over. The king was my stepfather Francis. Rather then being a ruler, he just stood as a head of state. He was rather hapless. It was always funny to see him upon a throne of nothing. "I'm going to be gone for a while. Don't show up at the castle for a while." Kiku stroked my hair as headed to the window.
I headed to say goodbye. He got to the balcony. I joined him, looking out to land that would soon be mine. He slowly turned my head and kissed me. "That's for today," He kissed my forehead, "That's for tomorrow."
I kissed his cheeks, "That's for the next day."
He laughed. He went down the rope that went down the stable below. He disappeared for a few seconds, then a red cloaked figure sped through the night. I gazed off into the night with the scent of forest in my nostrils. A tap on the shoulders broke me out of my dream. "Hey Amelia," Matt's voice was soft and quiet, "You may want to get inside before you freeze, eh?"
I walked inside closing the glass door softly behind me. "Matthew what the hell?!" I whisper shouted at him
"I heard him leave and I've seen you in your petticoat and corset before."
I crossed my arms, "Yes but knocking would've been nice."
"Oops sorry sis," Matt's face became red with blush, "Just making sure your alright. I don't trust anyone with my baby sister."
"I'm not a child Matt," I plopped on my bed causing several feathers to fly off. I felt something poke me in the back. Digging I found an origami bird. Smiling I said, "Besides, I think I trust him."

The next morning brought a large pot of coffee and bright rays of sunlight. The feeling of reading the latest news and eating a nice brunch perfectly embodied the Sunday morning feeling. I'd grown to appreciate those small things when I got on a day off. The parlor was rather empty so I sat with a small plate of butter scones (luckily not made my dad) and I read the kingdom's newspaper. Headlines mostly about my coronation and economics. Rather boring and dull. I really hated the news. I heard shoes walking on the marble behind me. I slowly raised a taser-knife. I turned to see Leon raise his hands, "Yo it's me."
"Wow you aren't quiet in the least," I said.
"I don't try to be man," Leon kinda laughed.
I re-sheathed the knife, "What does Dad want?"
"How did you know?" He asked
"I just know about it," I said, "What does he want?"
"Wants to talk about that Quad-Kingdom Leadership meeting," Leon sat down in a different seat, "What ever that means."
"I wish I didn't know," I said, "See you later Leon."
"Have fun Amelia," Leon picked up the newspaper and one of the scones.
