Brother!Dustin x Sister!Reader

Laying on my last piece of makeup, I quickly smile at myself in the mirror before opening the bathroom door and walking out. "This is going to be so cool!" I hear Dustin yell as he slips his makeshift vacuum onto his back. "Me and the guys have been planning this for months now," he states, matter-of-factly.

Turning toward me, Dustin pauses for a second before gasping with a surprised laugh. "You're dressed like Janine!" He points out, our mom smiling behind her camera. She knew I planned on doing this all along. Although, I had to make her promise not to tell Dustin about my costume, of course.

Grinning, I walk toward him before posing with him for a picture. "It's a big sister's job to make her little brother as happy as he can be," I assure him, placing an arm around him to hold him close. Dustin grins as Mom quickly snaps the photo before walking away and into the kitchen to put the Polaroid on the counter.

"But, are you sure you don't want to come as slimer?" Dustin asks, turning to me with an amused smile. His words make me smirk and roll my eyes. Along with planning the costumes with his friends for months, Dustin has been asking me to go as slimer with them. Of course, at the same time, I was hiding the fact that I would go as Janine Melnitz to surprise him, and yet, even if I weren't, I still would not be going as slimer.

"I'm honored," I joke, sarcasm lacing my voice. "But I prefer this professional outfit more than a bunch of green fabric bunched together to make me look like... well... slime," As soon as the words leave my lips, Dustin and I both chuckle while mom ushers us to get back together for a few more photos.

After being blinded by several more bright lights, I adjust my fake eyeglasses and straighten my sweater vest before heading out to the front porch where Dustin and I get on our bikes and ride to school. Another surprise I didn't plan on telling Dustin was that I'd be escorting him and his friends to class. A, because I wanted to, and B, because I know kids are going to make fun of them or point. Knowing my brother and his friends, they won't say anything back to defend themselves - but I will.

Arriving at their school, Dustin and I park our bikes before heading up to his friends, each in their designated ghostbuster costume... well, except for Lucas.

"There's nothing wrong with being..." Mike begins to tell his fellow friend something, only to forget speaking upon seeing me and Dustin walk up, smiling. Dustin and his friends all give each other hugs before giving me one as well, Will lingering in my arms the longest.

"Janine!" Mike points out my costume, making me laugh.

"‪Ghostbusters‬, whaddaya want?!" I quote the character in my best nasally voice, trying my hardest not to burst with laughter in the middle of the sentence. My words cause me and all the boys to laugh until they slowly quiet down as if something dawned on them. A few seconds of silence pass as they watch more kids leave the bus, their quietness concerning me.

"Nobody else is wearing a costume!" Lucas announces, sounding panicked.

"Why the hell isn't anyone else wearing a costume?!" Dustin asks no one in particular, his eyes flashing up to mine for help.

"Because no one else is as cool as you guys are, simple as that," I tell all the boys with an encouraging smile. "Now, come on," I say, placing my hands on Dustin's and Mike's back. "You're going to be late if you don't get a move on."

Heading into the halls, middle schoolers from all age groups stare at the almost cowering boys before one rudely shouts, "Look, everybody! Nerds are making a comeback!" The young boy's booming and obnoxious voice makes me roll my eyes. Why do kids have to pick on each other for being different?
