As Stephen and The Ancient One stood on the hospital balcony looking over the city, The Ancient One brought up another point just before leaving the world forever. "Stephen, before I go, watch over my daughter," she asked him, causing Stephen to turn his head and look at her strangely. "I see the way you look at her as she looks at you; I'm old, Stephen, but not blind."

At her comment, The Ancient One smirked. "I love her with everything in my soul and heart," She confessed, turning her head to return Stephen's gaze. "Promise me you'll protect her. I know you will, but just promise me, please," With The Ancient One's voice cracking, Stephen's frown turned into a sad smile as he slowly, but surely nodded his head.

"I promise to protect (Y/n) with my life, from now and forever, and through the battle that will soon prevail," Stephen assured her before turning his head back to the city. The Ancient One smiled, only to feel this was her last chance to say something.

"I don't recommend bringing her into the battle," She told him, "but when it is over, take care of her, and I know I don't have to say this because you're already doing it, but please," She paused, her heart clenching with as much happiness as she could in her last moment of life. "love her."

With that, Stephen turned his head back toward The Ancient One, only to find the spot she was standing at now empty, not even a shadow left behind. Meanwhile, in the hospital room where doctors and nurses were preparing to do emergency surgery, her heart rate on the monitor formed a straight line as a solid beep was heard throughout the room.

Taking a moment to let everything sink in, Stephen interpreted his master's words as encouragement to fight. Not only for The Ancient One's honor, but for (Y/n) as well. Stephen wasn't going to deny it - he did love The Ancient One's daughter - but he also couldn't deny his want and need to protect the woman from all that came their way.

Thinking back on it, Stephen could remember when they first met and how it didn't take long for some type of bond to form. Every time he would practice his abilities, (Y/n) would be there, helping him as a way to cheer him on. On the other side, The Ancient One would be watching the two, smiling as she knew her daughter's encouragement was actually working on the stubborn man.

When Stephen would be reading, (Y/n) would be there helping him find other books and helping him get the right stance when he would try to perform the practices in the book. Once again, on the other side, Wong would look around the corner, smiling and shaking his head as he watched the couple reading and discussing the material together.

(Y/n) even helped him put on the proper robes he had to wear while practicing when his hands couldn't do it for him, making him fall even harder for her. Other times Stephen had a hard time using his hands, (Y/n) was there, and never once did she grow mad or frustrated with the man when he tried to deny her help. This only made Stephen affirm his love for (Y/n) as she did it all with such care and kindness just as she did with everything else.

So, the battle of the worlds came and went as Stephen solved everything through ways that were needed, but not allowed. Although they lost Mordo, Stephen and Wong still promised to continue keeping the world intact the most they could. However, in Stephen's mind, he had another promise he anticipated on keeping.

That's how he ended up on (Y/n)'s hotel room's doorstep, ready to take her back to the place where she would be safe with him. The battle was the reason she had a hotel room. Both Stephen and The Ancient One knew that if she were to stay in the New York sanctuary, she would be in danger.

When (Y/n) opened her hotel door, she didn't hesitate to throw her arms around Stephen and hold him tightly against her. Surprisingly, he quickly embraced her back, knowing the hug was a mix of grief from the death of her mother and the fact she simply missed Stephen.

"I'm so sorry about your mother," Stephen said (Y/n), moving his hand up and down her back as a way of consolation.

"She was a good woman," (Y/n) told him, trying to keep herself calm. She then moved her face to where she could see Stephen, exposing a few fallen tears. A smile slowly came to her lips as the corners of Stephen's cloak came up to wipe away her tears. Apparently, Stephen wasn't the only one who loved (Y/n). "Thank you for coming back for me," she thanked him, only for him to become confused.

"Why wouldn't I?" He asked her, moving a stray lock of hair from her face with a slightly shaky hand. "You may not know this, but I do love you," He reminded her. (Y/n) giggled at this, letting Stephen show a smile of relief.

"I know, Stephen," (Y/n) assured him, placing her hands on his shoulders before leaning into him. "I love you too," She whispered, her breath dancing against his soft lips. Stephen smirked before pushing his face towards her, their lips connecting for a short kiss before pulling away, a few seconds passing before either of them spoke up.

"Before my mother passed on," (Y/n) began, her (e/c) meeting Stephen's seafoam ones. "She visited and told me that you promised to protect me and love me,"

"There goes the surprise," Stephen thought to himself.

(Y/n) then glanced up to meet his eyes. "And I promised to do the same, conversely."

At her words, Stephen broke into a grin, holding her closer to him before reconnecting their lips once more. A few seconds passed before Stephen found himself breaking the kiss and pulling away to ask something. "So, are you ready to return to New York now?" He questioned her.

(Y/n) chuckled, looking back into the hotel room. "Everything's packed," she told him before looking back at him. "Let's hurry. This place is starting to get really cold."

Taking the invitation, Stephen's cloak of levitation instantly jumped off of him before wrapping itself around (Y/n), warming her up quickly as she and Stephen both laughed. "I think it's saying we need to get all of my stuff ready to go," she noted, struggling to move as the cloak held her tight. "but it's not letting me walk."

Stephen smirked, leaning in to kiss her forehead. "No problem," he told her before walking into the room. After a few moments, he couldn't help but make a comment that made (Y/n) laugh.

"How much luggage did you bring?!"
