Chapter 1
To New BeginningsThe unseasonably cold day was followed by a cool evening breeze. The two sat on the porch as the fiery, red sky dipped towards the small town of Ackermanville, Pennsylvania. The misty clouds flashed bright red and orange with a golden-like streak striking down the clouds, hiding the setting sun just perfectly in the light. The sun was just minutes away from disappearing into the night.
"I am exhausted." Ethan Wilson said as he blew out the smoke from his burning cigarette, his pale skin making him look like he were a ghost until his tattoos came into view, adding color and life to the muscled body.
"You were asleep all night and half of the day. I don't understand how you could be that tired." The beautiful hazel eyed, Grace Clarke, said to her drunken boyfriend as she continued looking at the sky.
"And what were you doing?" He pointedly asked, giving her his infamous .
"Working a double shift." She replied, trying to not lose her temper with him and his nasty attitude.
"I was only sleeping that long because of you. You kept me up all day yesterday." Ethan replied with bitterness laced in his voice.
"I have an audition for a Febreze commercial tomorrow. I know it's nothing huge, but it's something and it would make decent money if I get the role." She smiled at him, trying to change the subject.
"A Febreze commercial? That's what you're excited about? Geez, I can't wait to tell everyone that my girlfriend was in a Febreze commercial," His tone sarcastic as he tried to make her feel stupid for looking forward to her audition. "Acting is useless. You're never going to make it." His voice came out harsh.
Grace started to fumble with her hands as she bit her lower lip. Ethan grabbed the bottle of jack that was a swig away from being empty. He wrapped his hands around it, clutching it tightly as if his life depended on it while he finished it up. Once it was gone, he waited a few seconds before radically throwing the bottle on the concrete, the glass shattering into a million little pieces.
"Ethan." Grace's gentle voice spoke his name, trying to capture his attention so she could calm him down.
Ethan kept his eyes focused on his cigarette as he put it back into his mouth, letting the intoxicating smoke fill his lungs. The bitter taste laid in his mouth, matching his personality. He closed his lifeless blue eyes and laid down on the porch with his hands running over his face, ignoring Grace as he usually did when he was in this state of mind.
"Ethan." She had called his name for the second time, hoping to get through to him even though deep down inside she knew that she never could.
He opened his eyes back up and turned his head to Grace, his eyes holding no emotion in them as he threw his cigarette in the lake that was only a few feet ahead of them.
"Ethan, are you okay?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowing in concern.
"No. I am tired of you constantly going out and trying to land roles for low paying commercials when you could be working more shifts at Rooms to Go. You think that maybe one of the commercials will lead you somewhere but it won't. You're not going anywhere. You're forever going to live in this crappy little house with me until the day you die, because we both know that you can't and won't leave." He yelled at her before picking up a piece of the glass just to fool around with it in his rugged hands.
