Chapter 5
I kept biting my nails as I waited near the gym. I had never felt so nervous before. The other girls were already inside but Jess hadn't arrived yet, at least I hadn't seen him going in. Even though I wanted him to be mine and I would have loved to pass more time with him, I just couldn't do this. So I waited for him outside hoping that I could talk to him before he entered the gym. I waited for some time but in vain. I opened the door of gym and peered in and I saw him inside. Oh damned, he had already arrived how come I hadn't seen him?
“Gabby,” He greeted me when he saw me. “ Come in.. we have just started.”
I heard Lara giggling as she whispered something into her friend's ear. My heart began to beat fast as I read the expression on the other girls faces.
“Ahm Jess may I speak to you a moment?” I stuttered as I averted their gaze.
“Sure.Come on girls start jogging in the meantime. 6 laps around the court.” Saying that Jess walked towards me and placed his hand at my lower back and pushed me gently towards the changing rooms.
“So, what's up?” He asked when we were alone.I exhaled and licked my lips nervously before finding the courage to look up at him.
“I'm sorry but this morning there has been a misunderstanding.” I started.
“Really?” He asked raising an eyebrow in suspicion.
I nodded. “ I won't train basketball, I can't become part of your team, I'm sorry.”
His eyes darkened as they looked intently into mine.
“Why not?”
“Isn't the reason quite obvious?” I questioned.
He shrugged. “Not to me I'm afraid. Gabby what is the problem, Lara?” He demanded.
I looked down, she surely was part of the problem but it wasn't her that was troubling me most.
“No Jess. It's me.. I'm not good at this sport.”
“How do you know? You haven't even tried yet.”
“Yes but.. I've never been good in any sports.. and I'm too heavy.” I murmured looking down, clasping nervously the hem of my shirt. For a moment he remained silent but then he took a step closer to me and put his hand on my shoulder.“I want you in. Gabby stop finding ridiculous excuses.”
“ I'm not finding excuses. Please Jess don't insist.”
I turned around to leave but he moved quickly and in a moment he was in front of me. My breath caught in my throat as I gazed into his deep blue eyes.
