We have been together now for a few weeks and I've grown to love Kalinda as if she were my own sister. We've played and played and she's even told me about her short time in the wild. It sounded amazing! The only sad part that I hated was how Kalinda watched her family be sold off while she was left in a stall. Her own mother didn't even get to name her. One of my best parts about her story of the wild was how wide the fields were. Being able to do what ever you wanted. I wished she could tell me more about the wild but it was too much to ask.
After a week, we got to meet our, well my father. Me and Kalinda were chatting when we heard our mother call us over. "SnowFlake, Kalinda, come here please" she nickered. We quickly obeyed and trotted over to her. "What is it mom?" I asked. She looked at us both her dark brown eyes traveling from me to Kalinda then back to me. "Today, you'll be able to meet your father" she said with a smile. "Really!?" I gasped. I've never met my father!! I couldn't wait to meet him. When I looked over at Kalinda, she wasn't as happy as I was. She looked scared. "kalinda?" I was very concerned. "Is something wrong Kalinda?" Mother asked as she tilted her head. "I..." She looked like she was trying to find the right words while me and mother just stood there and waited. "Do you think he'll like me?" She looked to the ground her ears lowered. I hadn't thought of that. My father isn't her biological father and we've never met him. "Don't worry sweat heart" mother soothed. "Ash is a very kind stallion and he would be glad to call you his daughter as well" mother said. Me and mother smiled at kalinda. "Come on Kalinda, give it a chance" I nickered happily. She looked at me and mother before she slightly smiled. "O-okay" she nickered before I gently nudged her. "Tag!" I laughed as I took off. Mother giggled. "Hey! Haha" she neighed before she chased after me.
We played tag until Gabriela's father brought a white stallion with black socks and grey dapples mixed in his fur as well as a black mane into the pasture. Me and Kalinda froze as we watched him. I studied his coat pattern for his was way different then mine. How could this be my father? I was pure white, he wasn't. As soon as Gabriela's father detached his lead rope he trotted towards mother who trotted towards him. "Hey love" he said as they nuzzled each other. "I've missed you Ash" mother nickered. When he looked over at me and Kalinda he looked a bit shocked. "I didn't know you were pregnant with twins" he said as he looked back at mother. She shook her head. "No I wasn't" she nickered as she looked over at us. "SnowFlake, Kalinda, come over here please" mother neighed. We looked at each other before we walked over to them. I didn't notice it but Kalinda stopped a few yards from mother and father while I kept walking towards them. "Ash, this is our daughter SnowFlake" mother nickered. So this is my father but how? "Hello SnowFlake" he nickered as he sniffed me. I sniffed him and he didn't seem so bad. A smile grew on my face before he nuzzled me and I nuzzled him. I had so many questions but when I looked to my sides I didn't see Kalinda. I looked behind me to see Kalinda yards away from us with her ears lowered and head to the ground. Father looked at her as well with his ears perked. "Kalinda, its okay" Rose assured her. She stayed put for a while before she slowly walked over to us. "It's okay Kalinda, he is nice" I nickered. "Ash, this is Kalinda. She came here with Bethany but she and her mother were sold separately so I thought we could take her in as our own" mother nickered. Father studied Kalinda for some reason but I couldn't tell why. He smiled though as he looked at her. "You don't need to be afraid Kalinda" father nickered. "I would love to call you my daughter as well" he nickered. Kalinda looked up at him full of shock but she smiled brightly. They nuzzled before father turned towards mother. "They are beautiful Rose" father said with delight. We were one whole family! Even though Kalinda was adopted she was also part of this family!
We got time to play with father since he visited many times. He told us wonderful stories of him once being a world jumper champion! I loved hearing these stories! I wanted to be just like father as well but I wanted to be an even better then father. Every time I said it he would say one of his most famous lines that I will always remember. 'If you practice and put in hard work to it, then your dream will come true.' I've held onto this quote for years and it was true. The last quote he said to us was that 'If you work together, nothing is impossible.' That was the last quote he ever told us before he died. He somehow coliced badly one day. He had rolled so much that it twisted his intestines so it was too late for the vet to save him. He had to be put down. We weren't able to say goodbye. Every time I think about the quotes he told me and Kalinda I always wished that I could jump back into time and ask him to tell us more. It hurt all three of us when we heard the news. Mother didn't sleep for weeks while me and Kalinda would do nothing but stand around for days. This mourning period went on for at least three months before we were able to accept the fact that he was gone and in a better place. We always felt him looking down at us and encouraging us to keep pushing forward in life.
