Maya

As I walk up the steps to the front door, Cameron looked at me in disappointment. I know he wanted me to move on and at least try to settle in here. At least I did, I drove and parked at the school. I just decided that today wasn't the day to go. I will definitely go tomorrow.

I walk up to Cam and give him a hug. He wraps his arm around me and I just had to smile. He's been my rock since we were kids. Being only a year apart, we grew up together. I know that he had my back like I got his and vice versa.

"I'll go to school tomorrow bub." I said.

"I know you will. Just make sure you get through the school day instead of coming home bubbles."

I laugh and punch his shoulder as he uses my nickname since childhood. I was obsessed with bubbles when I was two years old. So, Cam gave me the nickname. He says that I tried to say the word but I couldn't quite pronounce the L sound at the time. When he explained it to me at age five, I decided to nickname him Bub and it stuck ever since.

We make our way into the house and I see he had started unpacking. "Cam, I thought I told you to wait for me to get home."

He looks up at me and smiles sheepishly. "Well, you're home now."

"Yeah. I'm home now. You probably would have finished everything by yourself." I replied.

"I know. I know. Just go start unpacking your room while I order some pizza, alright? I know how stressed you get when you don't have your stuff in place."

As he dials the number to the pizza place we passed a couple of days ago, I head into my bedroom. We have only been here for a couple of days but we already painted the previously yellow colored room to a beautiful galaxy type of thing. My furniture is all white as well as my rugs. My bed sheets and pillows are a deep gray as well as the canopy that hangs over the top of my bed. I look around and sigh; this is gonna be boring.

I move all of the boxes with my clothes into my walk in closet. Then, I put all my books into the shelves that Cam helped me set up. Next, I decided to go through my CD collection. I noticed that I don't have a specific genre. And then finally, I put away all my little decorations up. My little lights. My pictures. Most of them are of me and Cameron.

"Bubbles. Pizza's here!!!" I heard Cameron shout down the hall.

"I'm coming Bub!" I shout back.

As I walk to the kitchen, I notice a guy sitting on a stool at the little island we have in there. He looks up and gets up to introduce himself. "Hi, I'm Jayson Reed. I live next door."

"Hey, I'm Maya Burns."

Cameron walks into the kitchen from the living room. "Hey Maya. Jayson goes to Southside High. You should head to school with him tomorrow. Maybe then, you won't back out." He laughs.

"Wait. Why aren't you at school then?"

"I wasn't in the mood today." Jayson replied.

"Oh. Okay. Cool. You think I can hang with you then tomorrow?"

"Yeah. For sure."

After a couple of hours of getting to know Jay, he had to leave but I'm pretty sure he just became my new best friend. We got a lot in common and he's not afraid to sugar coat anything. He's straight out. And I hope this works out for the best.

Hopefully tomorrow goes well.
