Chapter 3

As I walk over to Maya's, I look down the street and see him. He's been coming around more.

I raise my hand and knock on Maya and Cam's door. I look down at my shoes as I wait for one of the cousin's to open the door. Finally, Cam's face appears.

"Hey man. Come in. Maya is almost done getting ready. She also told me you're riding with her to school. Just a little heads up. She's a crazy driver but you're in good hands."

I laugh nervously. "What do you mean crazy driver?"

"Maya is well, a racer. So she likes an adrenaline junkie. She lives for that fast life. But, I would trust her with my life more than I would trust myself when it comes to driving."

"Oh, well okay. Then I got nothing to worry about."

I should ask her if she want to come with me to the racing circuit we have in the back roads later.

As I finished that sentence, Maya comes bouncing into the kitchen in some high waisted jeans, a black crop-top and a pair of converse with her black leather jacket in her arms.

"Hey Jay, you ready?"

"Yeah. Let's go. I'll show you around when we get there."

She grabs her keys and we head out to a red Camaro with black flames on the side. I also notice a little name on the side but I hop in the car before I could read it.

"Didn't you have a black Camaro yesterday?"

"Yeah. I have a couple of cars. I'm a racer and sometimes when I win, instead of taking the money, I take the car. This is one of them. I got it a couple of weeks ago."

"Oh. Cool. Hey, did you find a new place to race here yet? We have a racing circuit in the back roads that I go to sometimes for a friend of mine."

"No. I didn't but maybe I'll follow you next time to the one you go to."

"Okay. I'll let you know the next time I'm going"

She nods her head and I notice we pulled into a parking spot at the school already.

I step out of the car and literally everyone stares. Maya comes over to stand next to me.

"Do they do this every day?"

"No. It's just cause you're new and well you're with me."

"What does being with you have to do with anything?"

"I might have a slight rep cause I hang out with Zeke."

"Who's Zeke?"

"He's a friend. The one I told you about, that races."

"Oh. Okay. Well we should get going. You still need to show me around."

I nod my head and lead her to the office so we can pick up her schedule, locker number and locker code. I walk in and see Ms. Castello.

"Hi Ms. Castello. I'm here with my friend, Maya to pick up her papers. Last name is Burns."

"Good morning Jayson. I have all of it right here. We were expecting her yesterday."

"She got a little overwhelmed yesterday."

"Okay. Well tell her I said to have a nice day."

I nod at her and walk out of the office door.

Maya looks up from her phone and i can't help but to smile at her. She's really beautiful. She looks up at me and I hand her the papers.

"Ms. Castello says to have a nice day."

Maya Burns

I nod at Jay as he leads me to my locker. I input the locker combination and as I finish grabbing the books I would need for the first half of the day, a pretty petite girl walks up to Jayson and I.

"Hi. I'm Tera O'Brien. You must be Maya. Jayson told me a lot about you."

"Hey. I am. And I wish he told me a little about you. But we only talked briefly about people here."

"Oh. That's school. I have a feeling we will be great friends. I'll even introduce you to Matt later on today. Hopefully, he doesn't leave too early today." She rolls her eyes and I can't help but to wonder why she would be irritated by him leaving early.

I smile her and we continue to walk down the hall to my first class which I gratefully have with both of my two new friends.

Let's get this day full of help over with.
