CHAPTER FIVE:

KILL OF THE NIGHT

——————————

Blood was spattered across the diner's windows and Harper could see multiple people rushing around with guns, the lights were flickering violently and shattered glass glistened against it. She didn't hesitate to push open the completely demolished door which activated a friendly welcoming bell, and stepped inside.

Everyone in the diner stopped short and turned to stare at her.

"Harper?" said Five, holding a butter knife precariously above a darkly clothed man's neck.

Another man who was closest to Harper quickly aimed his gun at her.

"No!" Five made to stop him, "Don't–"

But Harper beat him to it.

Initiate defensive protocols, four subjects targeted, engage.

Harper grabbed the scissors from her coat pocket and drove them straight into the man's arm and he dropped the gun. She quickly picked it up, aiming at the chunky light fixture above his head she shot it down, where it promptly crashed into his skull.

Three targets remaining.

The fight quickly sprung into action once more as Five drove the butter knife straight into the man's neck, the man cried out and crumpled to the floor.

Two targets remaining.

"Jesus Christ!" Another man to Harper's left stared down at the bloodied heap on the floor in front of her in utter horror.

Harper yanked out the scissors from the dead man's arm threw them at the next target, the scissors whizzed through the air and stuck themselves straight into the man's chest with a small thunk. He collapsed to the floor, desperately trying to remove the thin silver shears from his body, but his hands shook too violently to extract them.

Harper faltered for a moment when she saw the raw gruesome fear in his eyes when she began to aim the gun at his head, but what she didn't see was his hand reaching across the floor for a gun only a few inches away from him. But before his finger's could enclose around the handle, Five appeared behind him, choking him with his tie.

"Now's not really the time to develop a conscience," Said Five through gritted teeth as he strained against the man's struggling. "The other one's about to blow off your head." He gestured behind her with his head.

Harper snapped back into focus and whirled around, ducking away from the shower of bullets that shot in her direction. Glass debris shattered into her skin but did not slow her as she barreled towards him and threw her fist into his face, the force from the blow knocked him back and the gun fell from his hands. Harper then hefted up the gun already in her hands and shot him square in the chest without another thought. He tipped backwards and his head cracked against the tiled floor.
