It's cold and damp as I sit here in front of the school as I wait for my older sister Lindsey to pick me up from the high school. I'm not suppose to be out here after 3 but I don't care. I give up on waiting for Lindsey. She probably won't come.
She's probably making out with her boyfriend Drake as we speak. It wouldn't surprise me. Little Miss Bad Girl Lindsey making out and forgetting about her sister. Me on the other hand, I'm Little Miss Good Girl Emily who always does the right thing and all that jazz.
Thankfully I packed my hover scooter today. I pull it out of my backpack and get on it. I decide to take a different route home. I take the route along The Fence. The Fence we are forbidden to talk to the people who come up to The Fence. The punishment for doing that is quite brutal your ether shot, or sent to the wild dog cages. It wasn't always like this though.
Back then people were allowed to talk to who ever they wanted when they wanted. You could go to there house with out being monitored. You could say what you wanted without being recorded. You could basically do whatever you wanted without being stalked by the government. I sometimes wish to live in those times. Then me and Jacob could say what we wanted when we wanted.
As I ride along The Fence something is thrown over it and it lands in front of me. I push the stop button on my scooter and hop off it. I look around to see if anyone's looking or is around. There probably isn't since most people are afraid to even go within 12ft of The Fence.
I pick it up and shove it in my book bag for further inspection. I hop back on my scooter and head home. "Hey Emily! I've been looking everywhere for you!" I smile and slow down my scooter. "Hey Jacob! What brings you to this part of town?" He smiles. "I was just about to ask you the same this Em's." He playfully punches my arm. "Hey. Not while I'm on my scooter!" I giggle. "Well answer my question." He says. "Answer mine 1st." He sighs in defeat. "I was looking for you so I could have someone to talk to on the way home. Now you answer mine." "Okay, okay." I say while laughing a little. "I wanted to try and see what's near The Fence and Lindsey forgot to pick me up..again."
Jacob laughs. "She's probably with Drake." I nod in agreement. "Yeah she probably is. She's gonna get it when she gets home...if she gets home." I roll my eyes at the end. When she's with Drake she won't come home till the next mourning smelling like smoke and alcohol. As we near my street Jacob and I say bye and head home.
When I get home to my surprise Lindsey is home, but what doesn't surprise me is that Drake is here with her. "Hey short stuff." Drake calls out. His voice raspy. "Don't call me that." I say. "Aww come on Em's lighten up." Lindsey says. I just grab an apple and head upstairs.
When I enter my room I close the door and lock it so those 2 won't even bother me. I open up my book bag and pull out my computer that has a hologram/tablet screen so I can do my homework. Within an hour all my homework's done and Drake left when my mom and dad came home with Annabella our little 10 year-old sister. Sure enough she knocks on my door. "Emily..I need help with my homework. Can you let me in?" She asks. "Yea sure." I press the built in tablet on my wall to unlock the door. Annabella comes in with her homework.
It takes about 20 minutes for us to finish her homework. "Thank you sissy" She says with a smile on her beautiful face. "No problem Anna. So how was school." she shrugs. "It was okay I guess. We where told the history about The Fence. How it got there. Why it's there. The people who live there you know." I nod my head. "Sounds like it was a good day." I smile. "Well thanks for helping me." She says then hugs me. "I love you." "I love you too."
After she leaves my room my door slides shut and I lock it so nobody comes in here while I look at the book that someone or something threw over The Fence. I examine it. A beat up leather cover and thin pages filled with beautiful swirled handwriting. "Hey Emily get your ass down here now!" Lindsey shouts from outside my door. "Hey! No swearing Lindsey!" I laugh. "HAHA you just got told my a 10 year old. And your 19!" I laugh. "Yeah well your about the same age as me!" Wow nice come back Lindsey (note the sarcasm) "3 year difference Linds. 3 year." I say through the locked door.
"Well it's time to eat so get down here." She says. "Okay okay. I'm coming. Jeez." I say.
Dinner only takes about 20 minutes to eat. After it I wash up and get into bed, but I can't seem to find sleep. When I do I have this dream about a boy I've seen before..from a long long time ago.
