Roman smiled as he waltzed into the school yard, flopping down onto the grass and laying his head in Virgil's lap, who started stroking his hair.
"Well, I've just signed up for In The Heights!" he declared, "And I'm bound to get the part I want!"
Virgil smirked down at his overly-confident boyfriend, "Sure, sure, Roman."
Patton and Logan were sitting nearby, with Patton leaning against Logan, who was reading intently.
"In The Heights?" Patton said, "But, doesn't that have rapping in it?"
"Yes, and?" Roman answered, raising his eyebrows.
"I didn't know you could rap." Patton stated, shrugging and snuggling closer into Logan.
Virgil yawned widely, deciding to give Roman's hair a quick tug.
"Well, I've never seen Ro rap." he said while Roman made offended Princey noises, "Who even knows if he can."
At this, Roman sat up and said indignantly, "Well of COURSE I can rap!" Virgil giggled slightly at Roman's insulted voice. "I'm probably the best rapper here!"
Logan jerked his head up from the book he was reading and looked Roman dead in the eyes.
"Prove it." he said, his voice low and competitive.
Roman laughed, "What, now?"
Logan nodded, "Right here, right now."
Thinking Logan was joking, Roman shook his head and laughed again, going to lean on Virgil's lap again.
But Logan stood up (causing Patton to slip off his shoulder and onto the ground) and pulled Roman up by his hand.
"I'm serious, let's do this now."
Roman raised an eyebrow and grinned, glad for a chance to prove himself right.
"Okay, a specific song or improv?"
"Improvisation." Logan replied, straightening his signature blue tie.
"Okay, challenge accepted." Roman said, "Winner gets...?"
Logan smirked, "Bragging rights."
"Seems reasonable."
"You bet your ass it is."
Roman grinned and glanced at Virgil, "Would you do the honours, my love?"
Virgil nodded and took a step towards the competing teens.
"Gather round, gather round!" he said, Beijing students forward. "We are about to witness aggressive bouts of beat poetry!"
Roman cracked his knuckles, while Logan cleaned his glasses and straightened his tie.
"Logan-!" Virgil gestured to the nerdy man,
"-versus Princey (aka Roman)!" He gestured to the energetic man.
"GO!"
Virgil began beatboxing as Roman flexed and took a step forward, grinning.
"Ladies, lords, and nonbinary royalty, watch me as I beat this geek, and do it joyously!"
A few students cheered at this, and Roman smiled widely.
Virgil continued to beatbox, using loud and dramatic sounds.
"I'll vanquish any villain with the gall to try toy with me!"
A few more cheers.
"Ask the Dragon Witch, she knows the drill, you're screwed ROYALLY!"
Roman took a few steps back, waving and smiling at the hoard of students surrounding them.
Virgil changed his type of beatboxing for Logan, deciding on a more robotic and steady sound.
Logan adjusted his glasses, rolled his eyes, and began.
"Stricken with clairvoyance, events occurred as I'd foreseen, your verse was weak, your rapping stinks, flamboyantly employing these!"
Roman seemed aghast, and stared at Logan.
Patton smiled, jumping on his feet excitedly.
"Trisyllabic rhymes- PSH- I can match that easily! I'll beat you every time so you do not want beef with me, Princey!"
Virgil looked between Roman and Logan, still beatboxing, stunned.
Logan continued, "I drown out lesser emcees when I flow, there's no avoiding me. Under pressure- I rise up, holler at your buoyancy!"
Virgil had flipped up his hoodie and was beating his head to Logan's rap, his arm held up to his mouth to amplify his beatboxing. Patton grinned and let out a "Woo!" as Logan rapped, looking ecstatic.
"Diadems are worn on capita, I had this battle in lock like Attica!"
Patton grinned, Virgil beatboxed, Roman glared.
"You're through, go home Princey, pack it up, I claimed to be the better bard and I backed it up!"
Logan finished with a final verse, flicking his glasses and fixing Roman with a piercing stare.
Roman looked utterly defeated, his shoulders sagging and his face baffled.
He had lost.
Patton squealed and rushes towards Logan, engulfing him in a hug and kissing him several times.
Virgil had ceased his beatboxing, and now faced the crowd.
"Alright, people!" He said, "That was pretty intense! Who do we think won?"
Immediately the majority of the crowd yelled "LOGAN!" and Virgil pointed to the boy.
"Congratulations, Logan, you win!"
Logan grinned, kissing Patton back eagerly.
Virgil walked over to Roman, who still seemed dazed by the precious events.
"Sorry, Ro, but you're a sore loser." He said.
Virgil stood on his tiptoes and gave Roman a kiss on the lips, then took his hand and led him away from Logan and Patton, who were still celebrating and kissing.
