yugyeom sat on his couch quietly staring at his phone that was open on a number. he had been sitting there so long that it was way past his dinner time. when kunpimook and him departed, he changed his number but kept the thai boys. he just couldn't let him go completely and ever since he saw him at work yugyeom couldnt stop thinking about him. re-reading the phone number over and over it was possible that yugyeom knew it by heart just from staring at it. setting the phone down and pulling a single cigarette out of the carton, he lit the stick, letting the toxic chemicals make their way to his lungs. almost another reminder of that horrid night. the toxic but sweet taste of kunpimooks lips against his own sent shivers down his spine and plastered a smile on his face. yugyeom picked the phone up again and walked to the window as the smoke hung from his chapped lips.

looking down at the busy street he wondered where kunpimook was right now, what he was doing, who he was with. his glance manoeuvres between the streets and the number as he tries to build confidence to call it, afterall it could be a different person, kunpimook could have gotten another number within the last year yugyeom thinks to himself before flicking the finished cigarette out the window and watched it disappear into the chaotic street below. "fuck it, whatever," he says to himself and his thumb automatically flies to push the number. the screen freezes for a second before displaying the dialling screen. yugyeom stares at the phone as his heart starts racing and his slim hands are shaking as he brings the active device to his ear, the ringing dragging out for what seemed like eternity until it stopped suddenly. yugyeom sighed in relief as he thinks it goes to voicemail, ready to hang up the call until he hears the smooth but bored tone of the voice on the other line, "yeah hello?" yugyeom is silent, no words being able to escape his mouth. he pulls the phone away from his ear to check the number again and for sure, it is kunpimook. yugyeom pushes all the effort he can into speaking but the most pathetic and sad hello is poured down the microphone and into kunpimooks ear. the thai male knows all too well who this is and immediately changes his tone, "yugs, hey!" he tries to put as much enthusiasm into his voice to lure in the shy boy but theres nothing. kunpimook checks to see if the call was still going and it was, yugyeom was just silent.

a gentle tear runs down yugyeoms grimey face as the soft voice flows through his ears and to his heart. that is the voice that yugyeom has been missing all this time. his best friend was the missing piece of his sad life he had created in order to protect the friendship. inhaling deeply to calm himself down, yugyeom speaks. "mook? is that really you?" he thinks the moment is cliche but he just needed to reassure himself. yugyeom has never been the most confident person, he was often gullible when it comes to situations, kunpimook knew this. he waits for an answer as one more stray tear sneaks its way down yugyeoms cheek again, "of course you silly goose, who else would it be?"

yugyeom takes a seat and lights another cigarette, the nicotine hit making the situation slightly more bareable. he wants to make a joke but everything popping up in his mind seemed awkward and not funny whatsoever. "um, i'm not sure really but i'm just calling to say sorry about the other day and having to rush off so quickly. also to make sure this is still your number obviously because like it would be completely weird if it wasn't and i sent like a text and it was someone different and like yeah.." yugyeom rambled on and as he continued he cursed himself in his head for stumbling and sounding like a complete reject. theres a string of laughs and giggles from the line and it gives yugyeom slight reassurance. at least it wasn't awkward, "yugs you need to chill, its totally fine you were working, but hey if you're not working today or anytime soon do you wanna meet up somewhere like old times?"

"um yeah, i'll text you when if thats okay?"

yugyeom thought he would never hear those words again, ever.
