Glen Trasi. Captain. OSF. Crap.
I lay on the bed in the captain's quarters of the Griffin. I kept think about only one thing: being a captain is not all that you imagine. At least not for me. When I joined the OSF that was all I could think about, of commandeering my very own ship. But now that I am captain, I don't feel like one. The captain's union won't accept me, I have never been into a battle and I'm not even allowed to charter the Milky Way where no life has ever been. Patrolling is all that we do.
I think that the reason that the captains and the rest of the OSF except the High Command, hates me because I am the youngest captain in the OSF history. They think that I got it easy and that I don't deserve it. But they actually don't know the whole story, and I'm not gonna tell them. Once I get the chance, I shall prove them. And it came.
I heard two quick beeps consecutively from my bedside desk. I turned towards it to see my communicator flashing. I quickly grabbed it, fitted it in my ear and tapped on it to answer the call.
"Apologies for disturbance captain." Said a gruff voice, which I recognised as the voice of my first officer, Rashelek E'tar, home world Jarzea.
"Don't worry about it Rashelek." I said. "What's happening?"
"We have received an important message from a STAT team. You are needed on the bridge."
"I'll be there as soon as I can." I said as I jumped off my bed. STAT is the abbreviation for Space and Terrain Assault Troops. They are an elite unit who are capable of stealth and assault operations on every planet and even space, when foot troops are required in ship assaults or asteroids. The Griffin also has it's own STATs, because even though OSF has it's own elite units, STATs can easily best them.
I went to my wardrobe and took out a pair of shoes and my captain's badge. I laced on the shoes and strapped on the captain's badge on my left shoulder. The OSF issues the same uniform to everyone, with only the arm badges to show the designation of the officer. Personally, I like the simplicity. No need to wear those heavy uniforms or battle outfit all the time.
After getting dressed and sobering up by splashing some water on my face, I walked out into the hallway. Captain's quarters are directly connected to an elevator that heads down to the bridge and to the rest of the ship. I opened up the elevator, stepped in and pressed the button that said 'bridge'.
As the elevator hummed down towards the bridge, I practiced how will I say 'at ease' .
"At ease, gents!" Too old school.
"At ease, officers!" Not all are officers.
"At ease, at ease." That is just pathetic.
Suddenly I felt the elevator stop, and a second later, the doors opened to the bridge of the Griffin. The bridge of the Griffin had two parts. There was a bottom part at the front of the bridge and then there was an elevated part at the back of the bridge. The bottom part is for the pilots, navigators and weapon operators. The top part is for the captain, the first officer, and the chief navigator. Separate helms are built for each of them, from where we can commandeer the ship.
"Captain on the bridge!" Shouted Rashelek when he spotted me, and stood up from his helm seat in respect, and so did the rest of the bridge.
I looked at Rashelek. Just like most Jarzeans, he was also humanoid and taller than the average human. He had a long face, light brown skin and blue eyes. He only had hair on his back which were neatly tied in a ponytail. He looked at me and gave me a salute.
To my left was the chief navigator, Francis van Dan, from Earth. He was a short built person with a bald head, blue eyes and always a serious expression. He was also stain
