21~Poor Zach

Corbyn: look there's Zach!

"I looked to where Corbyn was pointing and I saw Zach. We rushed towards him, asking what happened."

Zach: I gave them a statement and they said they'd get in touch
Jack: that's good

"Zach walked out of the police station. I ran after him."

You: Zach what's wrong? This is good news. You're not getting arrested
Zach: I suppose
You: what's wrong then
Zach: nothing. Can we just go home
You: okay

"We went back to Why Don't We's house. I was really relieved that nothing happened to Zach but I couldn't help but wonder what was wrong. Surly there was another reason why he said he wanted to be arrested?"

"We all sat in the living room. Jonah put the tv on and we sat in silence. Until Corbyn spoke."

Corbyn: so Zach. You gonna tell us what's wrong?

"We all looked at Zach. I could tell he didn't want to tell us. But why? Surely it's not that bad."

Zach: no. I can't
Jack: why not? Were your best friends
Zach: I just can't alright!

"He got up and ran out. Jack got up to follow him but Jonah stopped him."

Jonah: leave him for a moment. He'll be fine

*Zach Pov*

"I ran out the front door and sat against the wall with my head in my hands. It's not fair. Why does this have to happen to me. A few minutes later, someone came out the house. It was y/n. She sat next to me. Straight away I felt reassurance, like nothing was wrong. She has a way of making you feel better and I feel really bad that Daniel threw it away and hurt her."

You: you don't have to say anything if you don't want to. But I just want to make sure you're happy
Zach: thank you

"We sat in silence. But it was a comforting silence, not awkward. Then I spoke up."

Zach: m-my mum... she has Cancer

*Your Pov*

You: Zach... I'm so sorry
Zach: it's not your fault
You: I'm sure that she'll beat it
Zach: I hope so
You: do you want me to leave you alone for a bit

"He nodded. I stood up and walked into the house and into the living room. Poor Zach! That must be the reason why he wanted to be arrested. He probably thought it was his fault that his mum has cancer."

•The Next Day•

"I slept restlessly last night. I couldn't stop thinking about Zach. He texted me last night saying he was going to the hospital to visit his mum and asked me to go with him. I said yes. Jack's coming too."

"I got up and got ready. Then I heard a knock on the door and opened it to see Jack smiling at me. I followed him to the car and got in the passenger seat next to him."

Jack: I feel so bad for Zach
You: me too. He really doesn't deserve it. But I'm sure she'll beat it
Jack: me too

"We arrived at the hospital and walked in. Zach was in the waiting room. We went up to him and gave him a hug."

Jack: it'll be okay bro. I'm sure

"After visiting his mum, who was asleep when we left, we went out for lunch. Luckily, Zach had cheered up a bit by seeing us and his mum.  We went to chipotle and sat at a table. We were about to order when I saw someone walk through the door. He walked straight past our table, his head held high, holding hands with a girl his age. It was Daniel and Olivia."
