________
"Ebby it's time to get up" I heard a soft voice say. I felt a tug on my sleeve and I opened one eye slowly. My 6 year old sister, Calli is hugging her blanky tightly and smiling softly at me. Her light brown hair is cascading down her shoulders in loose curls. I push myself up and sit up on my bed.
"Start getting ready Calli, I'll be there in a minute" I say sweetly and rub my face. She nods her head and runs out of the room, her feet tip toeing up the hallway. I go to my mirror table and run my brush through my hair. My loose curls, similar to Calli's, are dark brown with lighter tips. I put some light make up on and go to my small wardrobe. It's supposed to be hot today so I decide on a white t-shirt with a pair of denim high waisted shorts and my navy blue converse. I put my books in my brown leather backpack and I walk down to Calli and Jordan's room. When I walk in Jordan is trying to do his tie up for school and Calli is brushing her hair. I crouch down in front of Jordan and he lets go of his tie. "It's okay buddy, I got it" I say and tie it up. He nods and smiles in appreciation. I smile back at him then turn around and start on Calli's hair.
I pull her hair into two sections and put them up in pigtails, then put a yellow ribbon in each one. She giggles as she runs her fingers over the ribbons. I smile and call Jordan over to stand next to his twin. They stand side by side and smile brightly.
"You two look great!" I say and Calli thanks me while Jordan just nods and smiles again.
"Alright let's pray okay?" I say and Calli grabs both mine and Jordans hands. I bow my head and the other two follow suit. "Dear god, please take care of us today as we return to school for another week. Thank you for keeping us alive and healthy, please watch over our mother up there also. Amen" I say quietly and Calli whispers 'amen'.
"Okay, lets go kiddies" I say and stand up. We all walk to the end of the hallway and I quickly get my bag out of my room before we quietly climb down the stairs. We manage to make it out of the house without our dad or step mom catching us. We all climb into the car that our mother had left for me in her will, a 1966 black ford mustang convertible. It was my baby. I turned the radio on and sang softly all the way to my high school.
When we arrived, I parked in the spot closest to the school and we all got out. I gave Calli and Jordan a kiss on the forehead and they both walked down the road beside my school to their school, hand in hand.
I smiled at their retreating backs and was startled when someone coughed. I turned around to see my best friend Winter sitting on the hood of my car and giving me a funny look.
"What?" I asked in confusion.
"Nothing. Its just... I've never seen anyone love their siblings as much as you do" She sighs dramatically.
"What ever" I scoff and push her as I walk past her.
She laughs and catches up to me and we walk into school together. A few people call out their hello's and good morning's to me and I reply. Winter and I walk all the way to homeroom where we take our usual seats in the middle but to the side of the class. The class fills up over the next 15 minutes and then the bell rings as Mr Walker comes into class.
"Good morning class" He calls out and a few people shout their replies. He sits at his desk and takes the roll. "So can we do something this weekend?" Winter says and turns in her seat to face me.
"I don't know, I have to take care of the twins" I say sadly.
"But you need to go shopping with me!" she whines.
"You know the rules Winter" I sigh. My step mom created these rules for weekends, that my siblings and I are to be out of the house between 10am and 10pm both days. They don't like us being home when they have friends over. My step mom only lets her two kids, Amelia (12 years old) and Mia (14 years old) stay home if they want.
