The doctor followed him, her heels clacking in the distance as she went to investigate. I listened with all my might, craning my neck to head what was going on. Slowly, the screams died down except for the one yell of my doctor. Only, it didn't sound like a scream of pain, rather one of rage. I could hear Dad yelling too. That was odd. My dad rarely even raised his voice. "Dad?" I called, and then he stepped in, a grim smile on his face. However, he wasn't alone. "Hey Brookie," a familiar voice, sweet as honey, comforting as home, said softly. "L-Logan?" I looked up, daring to meet his eyes. "It's me." When I noticed his expression, I noticed he looked slightly shameful. "What did you do?" I asked, playfully, nostalgia in my voice, remembering the amount of times I had asked him that. "May have...accidentally pulled the fire alarm?" He smiled, while Dad rolled his eyes. I knew that Dad was angry that Logan was back here. Fresh starts involved getting rid of everything old. "Dad..." I attempted to wade into the waters. "Could you maybe....give us a minute?" "Yeah!" He threw his arms into the air. "Why not?" He grumbled, mumbling to himself as he left the room. Logan immediately leaned over and kissed me, our lips locking in a familiar position. "Baby," He was careful not to hug me too hard. "Why didn't you tell me?" "How did you even find out?" I asked, clearly avoiding the question at hand. "Your dad- my stepmom," he rolled his eyes as though it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Why would my dad tell your stepmom? They don't even know each other that well! Was he trying to tell you?" It was as if I knew what he was going to say. "No...they're together, Brooklyn. After my dad left...you never knew this?" The heart monitor began to beat rapidly. I could feel rage boiling deep in my blood. "And he gets angry at me for keeping secrets!" Even though Logan was here and that should have been the happiest thing in the world....I couldn't manage to think about anything else. Logan wiped my sweaty hair from my face and I allowed myself to relax for a moment, relishing in his beautiful presence, I closed my eyes. "How did you get here, anyway?" "I was gonna surprise you in your new house. I got a week off from school and I just missed you so much," he peppered kisses along my face. "You're too sweet! I really missed you too." After all, wasn't that all I was worried about? Besides my mom? Logan. He was my home. But a part of me felt better as we got farther away. I wasn't sure what to do. Logan and I were definitely going to have to talk. But first, my dad and I definitely needed to. "Log, we need to talk. But you better get my dad in here right now." He knew I meant business. And so he went.
