Heart racing,

Vain tracing.

Head pounding,

Board mounting.

Hands ready,

Pace steady.

The klaxon sounds,

I leap off the ground.

In the water,

Sounds distorted.

And I’m off,

Inhaled water, no time to cough.

I swim for my life,

My arms slice through the water like a knife.
