That was the last message I got from that unknown number in a while and it's been two and a half months since school started. Me and Dante have gotten really close by now and normally walk back to my place to hang out. If not we would go around the town to hang out for a while. I never told him about the creepy texts I got, and to be honest, I forgot about them myself.
Then that week arrived.
All around the building there were posters about it. They had it on the morning announcements and the afternoon ones as well. They made cheesy skits with our mascot asking out a student only to get rejected for another person to ask the mascot out(our mascot was a female). All the boys made cute ways of asking out girls and girls acted all cutesy around the boys.
That's right: Homecoming
Now it's normal for the new kids to be excited to ask the girl they think they like out to this dance, but sometimes the girls purposely throw themselves right at them.
Which is what was happening now.
Twelve girls is how many I counted that got rejected by Dante. Twelve that I have seen. And we have two classes and barely see each other in the hallway. He told me it was more than twelve at this point.
"I don't like any of the girls here." Dante commonly told me. It made me feel a pang in my heart. I didn't know why though, but I always laughed and said that he's such a player even though he hasn't even dated anyone here.
"Oh! Speaking of homecoming, are you going Anna?" He asked casually.
"I might if I find a dress in a good enough price range for me but I'm not sure if I will. Why, aren't you going with your buddies from period five?" I said. I never liked those guys. They always played "pranks" on other students for weeks at a time. I'm sure it's actually their excuse for bullying. But Dante seems fine with them so I won't get in their way.
"I don't want to be known as the prankster of the party that night. But I was asking just to know..." he said a little defensively. I look over to see his caramel cheeks darken a bit.
I shrug it off and waited by the door for him to get his regular clothes from his gym locker. I took this time to look at my phone. Someone sent me a message.Unknown: don't say yes to him again
And here I thought they were done with me.
Anna: Leave me alone or I'll report you to the cops
Unknown: id like to see you try
I left the messages alone. Just in time because Dante just walked out the door.
"Hey I think you should go to homecoming-" He said all of a sudden.
"Why do you think that?" I said to him. He looked over at me then looked back.
"Hey, you didn't let me finish." He said with a laugh in the beginning. "I was going to say I think you should go to homecoming with me..." he said getting quieter and quieter.
