When he realized who was calling, he didn't know if he should pick up the phone. He felt a sudden pang of many emotions in his stomach. A mixture between nervousness, excitement, and anxiety. He let the phone ring for about five seconds before he picked up the phone.
"Hello, this is Coby Smith speaking." Coby said into the speaker of his phone.
He heard a quiet laugh, "Oh my goodness, I know who is speaking. Do you know who is speaking to you, Coby?" Emma June replied.
"Yeah, I think so. It's Emma June right?" Coby said acting as if he was unaware who was calling him.
"Correct! So, how have you been doing? It's been a while since we have talked."
"I'm doing just fine. How have you been doing?"
"Fine, fine."
There was an awkward moment of silence after she said that. Coby nor Emma knew what to say. Coby didn't know why Emma even called him, and neither did she. That's when Emma broke down and got all emotional.
"So, my dad just died. I guess I'm an orphan now... Ugh, I'm sorry. I've just not had anyone to talk to about stuff happening in my life. I just feel so alone." Emma said sounding very sad and depressed.
"Oh my goodness, Emma I am so sorry. I know how you feel. I've gone through the same thing as you. Ugh, I'm so sorry." Coby said, really feeling sorry for her.
"Thank goodness. I'm so glad that I know someone that knows what I'm going through."
"Yeah, its always good to know that you are not alone."
After that, he told her all about how his wife had died, and how he had many questions about his wife's death. When he was done with that, she told him how sorry she felt for him.
"Thanks for reaching out to me Emma." Coby said to her at the end of there conversation.
"No problem! Anytime that you ever need someone to talk to, you know who to call." Emma replied.
Then they said their goodbyes and ended the phone call. He felt very happy about their conversation. He was glad that he picked up the phone. Now, he knew that Emma and him had at least lost someone that they had loved very much. He had lost his wife and she had lost her dad. He felt bad for her, and he knew that she felt bad for him. He was glad she had called him. And he looked forward to the next phone call they would share.
