"Are you ready for Playlist?" Layla asked excitedly while her friend was standing in front of the mirror examining her image. She turned the phone more towards her. "I'm probably not going to go." "Whatcha mean you're not going to go? We've been planning this our whole lives! We finally get out on our own. We get decent jobs and we have a chance to go see Sam and Colby and you don't want to go?" She shook her head. "We've grown up with them. We have to go. I don't want to hear all that NO." Layla said. "Layla look!" She turned the camera towards the mirror. "I'm ghastly. Nobody wants to see this!" she exclaimed. "You're being dramatic sis" Layla sighed. "Don't you think we're a bit old for all this now?" she asked her friend. "Um excuse me? We're in the same age bracket as them. How can we be too old? Why are you SO down on yourself? Turn the camera back around." Layla demanded. She complied. "There's nothing wrong with you. You are as beautiful as ever. I really want to see you! We haven't seen eachother in so long! It's going to fun. Besides, I already got our tickets. Don't make me tweet that I'm at playlist all alone because my bff bailed on me." Layla rolled her eyes on the screen and giggled. "Who's dramatic now Layla?" she asked laughing.
Truth is she was down on herself. It's been a rough year. She just left a long term relationship. Ok. She wasn't the one to leave; and it ended badly. She'd been with Mark for 4 years. He was everything; until he wasn't. Tall, dark and handsome. The sterotypical dream. Athletic, good genes and a bangin body. They had had it really good. Had their own little apartment they'd been living in for a little over a year. A dog. Running in the park together every morning. Gym time in the evenings. They had good jobs. Everything they needed. Living the domestic dream. And then he left. It was such a devastation to her. She was depressed. Her attitude had changed as well as her body. Maybe Playlist would be a good distraction.
"I need to go shopping" she told Layla. "You certainly do. Because that outfit is NOT working for you!" Layla laughed. She made a face at her. "I'm hanging up now idiot" she laughed at her friend. "I think I'll go to the mall." "Call me when you pick something. I need a fashion show before you purchase. We must be cute. Love you sis!" Layla called to her friend before hanging up. She grabbed her keys and told her dog Woodley goodbye. "I'll be back soon!" she called as she walked out the door.
She roamed around the mall finally going into a store she never dreamed she would have to go into. She sighed as she walked over the threshold. Pawing through the racks, she was pleasantly surprised by the items she saw. She became a little more relaxed. A sales associate came every once in a while to take her finds and had started a dressing room for her. She had even told her she was gorgeous. That had made her day. She stepped into the dressing room ready to put some outfits together. Maybe this wasn't so bad afterall.
