All these years later he still got nervous before going on stage. Afterall, his life was lived infront of a camera either alone or with Sam, not on a stage infront of thousands of people. "Showtime bro!" Sam elbowed him. He saw the usual worried face his friend had before an event. Colby had been thinking about the nice girls they had met earlier in the day. Sam was right, not your typical fans. He hoped the one was doing alright. She seemed particularly nervous and uncomfortable. He chuckled to himself.
Peeping out from the wings, he tried to see her, but he was at a bad angle. He hoped they had gotten close so they could have a great time. What he did see was the record crowd before them this year. "Jesus Christ" he said softly to himself. So much had changed over the years. Their fan base was changing. Kids that had grown up with them were getting older. Their content had changed to fit the times. Hell, he and Sam were getting older too. "You'll be fine" Sam cut through the memories in his head soothing Colby with a quick side hug right before they were sprinted onto the stage. The minute they were onstage he looked for her. "Bro! Get with it" Sam called to him. "Yeah sorry!" "HEEEEYYYYY......What's up guys!!!!.......It's Sam and Colby!!!!" he yelled to the crowd arms outspread. The uproar was deafening. Sam looked over at his friend standing tall; not a shred of nervousness. That huge familiar grin spread across his face. Sam smiled and started clapping up in the air and running around. Colby could barely make out anyone in the crowd. Except her. She was easy to spot. He smiled wider.
She and Layla had arrived unnecessarily too early, but they really wanted a good spot. First row, stage left on the end. Just incase. She had no way of disguising herself tonight. She only had her ID and some cash in her pocket. No big bag. Layla had picked through her outfits and found a really cute flowy top and her shredded jeans. She even had done her hair and makeup for her. Her best friend knew how to make her feel special sometimes. Layla looked immaculate. She was such a polished girl. Hair and nails always done. Outfits always on point. She however, was more of a jeans and hoodie kind of girl. It was nice to look decent for once. She almost felt pretty. "My stomach hurts" she told Layla. "Nerves? Did you eat before we came down?" "Yeah. Maybe the sandwich didn't agree with me" she said with a puckered face. "Well don't go shit now, they're about to come out!" She didn't feel like thinking of a comeback and rolled her eyes at Layla. The lights dimmed and music blared over the speakers. The two friends looked at eachother with big eyes. Just then, there they were, sprinting onto the stage. "WOOOOOO" she screamed. She couldn't take her eyes off that man. She felt like she'd known him personally most of her life. There he was, in all his glory. Black jeans, black tshirt with red panels down the sides. Rings. Huge, flashing smile and the bluest eyes. Larger than life. "Finally" she sighed. She was finally having fun. Her stomach pain subsided and she resigned herself to having fun.
Suddenly, both boys were running down the space between the first row and the stage. High fiving, posing for super fast snaps, and quick arm hugs. Sam came by them first. "Yo!!" He grabbed her arm and quick side arm hugged Layla's neck. He pulled out his phone and shot a picture of all three of them together. Colby ran over and stuck his head up from Sam's elbow into the shot. Tongue out. Both girls laughed hysterically. "Good to see you, I've thought about you all day" he said as he grabbed her hand and squeezed. Suddenly he regretted what came out of his mouth. She looked confused but laughed. "Hey take a pic of us" he said to Layla. He put his arm around her neck and squeezed her face onto his. "Make a weird face babe" he said. And they did. "Tag me so I know your handle." And he was off to the next girl. She could barely breathe. Layla looked at her wide eyed. "Did he call you babe?" screaming. "Ah huh!" she screamed back. The girls next to them congratulated them on the contact and even told her she looked so cute. She really was having a good time and for once felt good. She rode this feeling all night. They weren't doing a regular meet and greet tonight. That was tomorrow, but they did have limited passes to some backstage VIP thing for people they had on the show tonight that Layla had sprung to get for them as a surprise. She knew she paid a mint for them and was so greatfull. She looked forward to possibly seeing them there. But right now, she was transfixed on that boyish looking brunette onstage. The one with the million dollar smile and kind, crystal blue eyes.
