Friday. Nothing of great interest during the day at Playlist. It was mostly business stuff. But tonight! Tonight was the big kick off. Sam and Colby were again hosting some sort of calamity of crazy tonight. She was almost over the moon! That was until Layla suggested going to the pool. "I'm really not in the mood Layla." she said. "It's like a damn water park and you don't want to go and be apart of it?" Layla said running round the room grabbing sunscreen and hats and stuffing them into a beach bag. "Where the hell did she get a beach bag??" she thought. "I'm not comfortable showing off this" she gestured full length of her body. "Honey, can you just accept who you are? We are older. Things change. Life happens. We are who we are. And it's not permanent. We are here to take full advantage of what this cash cow hotel has to offer. Plus maybe we'll have a little tan for tonight when we go to the show!" Layla again running around. "Throw it on!" she tossed her new swim suit at her. "I literally hate you right now Layla" she sighed. Once she was dressed, she volunteered to carry the beach bag down to the pool. It was her only means of disguise. What she was going to do when she got there she didn't know. She had on a very large tshirt and shorts over her form. Maybe she'd just keep that on.
"Take it off!" Layla demanded when they secured some lawn chairs on the west side of this madness known as the pool. It was so crowded. Layla pointed to her shirt and shorts. "Absolutely not" she said back. She was still awkwardly standing there with the beach bag infront of her close to her body. "Give me the bag so I can get our towels and take off the ensemble. It's a really cute bathing suit." Layla snatched the bag from her. "I'm going to burn Layla I need to keep it-" before she could finish Layla had popped open some umbrella that was hanging out there. "Full shade my love! Now take that shit off. I'll spray you!" she was already shaking the can of sunscreen. Rolling her eyes, she complied, got sprayed and quickly sat down with her knees up and a towel draped over her lower half. "You are impossible right now" Layla sighed. But she was already seeing the looks. Just those few minutes in all her bathing suit glory. The eyes of the crowded pool were on her.
"I could get used to this" Layla sighed. "Huh?" she said back looking up from her kindle. "I COULD GET USED TO THIS I SAID" Layla hollered back. The music was so loud. Definitely a party atmosphere. "Oh Ah huh" she called back to her returning to the book she had downloaded. "Let's get in. I'm so warm right now!" Layla shouted. "Uh no thanks! I don't want to leave our phones and stuff here by themselves" she shouted back. "Oh yeah. Damn that was a bad idea. Ok I'll go real quick just dip in and cool off and then you can go" she said walking away. "Fat chance" she said under her breath. It was really hot, and she did want to at least dip in. But not like this. Too self conscious.
Suddenly most of the crowd roared. She looked up from her book in the direction the crowd was looking. Sam and Colby strutted past the pool area, up to the dj deck and spoke briefly with him. In that same moment Colby took of his shirt as he most often does when he's anywhere near water or the slightest bit warm. The crowd roared again. They threw their arms up in the air as the music came on. Hopped around a bit and when the song was over, they were gone as quickly as they came on. "Did you see them?" Layla shouted running up to her. "How could I not" she said back excitedly. "That's the spirit mah girl" Layla said back. "You ready to dip in or dip out?" "Out" she said nearly immediately flashing on her clothes and grabbing the bag. "We need to start getting ready for tonight!" she called over her shoulder leaving. "Wait up!" Layla cried stumbling after her, throwing her towel over her shoulder.
They walked around the main pool party area and across to the door for the hotel. Four security guys flanked them and moved past. "Sorry ladies. We have to get in before we get mobbed, this one took his shirt off again" It was Sam. "Holy shit" Layla breathed. Colby shrugged laughing. "Come on through this way before you get trampled" he said pointing at another entrance. "We'll give them the slip!" He walked behind them. She was suddenly so nervous. She grabbed Layla's arm. "I know right?" Layla whispered. The guards weren't very good, they went before anyone else. "No really, I'll hold the door" Sam said to no one. They filed through some back hallway. "You guys just head right. We're going left. Hope you're having fun! We'll see you tonight right?" Sam asked when they reached the end of the hallway. "Absolutely!" Layla exclaimed a little too robustly. Just then there was a clank to the floor. Looking down, she realized that she had dropped the can of sunscreen out of the pocket of the bag. She haphazardly bent down to get it. "Nope! I got it." It was Colby. He stooped down next to her and retrieved the can. "Here ya go" he said handing it to her. "Thanks" she said sheepishly. She maneuvered the bag. She was certain everyone at that point was staring at her. "We gotta go ladies. We'll look for you at the show!" Sam said walking off waving. "See ya" Colby said touching her arm and moving around her. "Ah huh" she said. "Ah huh? That's all you could think of?" Layla grabbed her. "Shit I'm like starstruck" she said back laughing. They watched them walk away. As they turned the corner at the end of the hall, a little glimpse of brunette bangs and half a face popped back around along with a hand. Colby was waving. And then he was off.
"What the hell just happened?" she asked Layla. "I have not a fucking clue. But it was glorious!" They nearly floated back down the hall to the right and to the elevators. They needed to go get ready.
Down the hall the guys had stopped waiting for someone to unlock the door they were supposed to go through. "They were nice" Colby said to Sam. "Oh yeah. Not your typical fans." Sam said back looking at Colby in the face. "You saw her didn't you?" he questioned. "Yeah I saw her Sam." Sam left the conversation at that. They'd been together for so long he knew when to not push a topic. They were 25 now. Well versed in eachother's company. Sam knew when to shut up, unlike his friend.
