Peter woke up the next day in a familiar but unusually comfortable bed. Peter forced all of his energy into peeling his eyes open and looked around recognising the giant Ironman poster opposite him, Tony was such a narcissist.

Peter jumped as something came crashing down from the vents above his room, of course it was Clint.

'Peter!' Clint said as he stood up and brushed the dust off of his Hawkeye themed pyjamas. 'Breakfast is ready, Tony is demanding you join us. Please put us out of our misery, I can't stand listening to him talking about how worried he is about you dying in your sleep any longer.' And with that Clint left like he hadn't just come crashing through a vent into Peter's room.

I'm living with a bunch of insane idiots Peter half heartedly thought as he dragged himself out of bed. The fact that it was summer briefly passed through Peter's mind, should he call MJ and Ned to tell them what happened? With that thought Peter's stomach twisted with grief, probably also accompanied by hunger. He dismissed his friends for the moment, they could wait.

Peter didn't bother looking at himself in the mirror already knowing he looked like he'd been dragged through a bush backwards. The thought that the other Avengers being in the tower at this precise moment obviously did not cross his mind. Peter had met all the Avengers, in fact he was quite friendly with all of them even having obtained a space in their group chat. However Peter still wasn't 100% comfortable around them due to him spending most of his time in the tower with Tony, not them. He definitely would never have chosen to practically sleep walk into the kitchen where everyone was sitting looking like he did now. But hey, he was going through a lot.

Peter jumped onto the kitchen counter already knowing he was too short to reach any of the bowls. He grabbed the biggest bowl he could find and proceeded to backflip off the counter Peter style. As he had jumped backwards he had heard a loud high pitched gasp and a chair swiftly being pushed to the floor. There was no surprise in him that once he landed he felt Tony's arm trying to steady the perfectly stable Peter.

'Jesus, Kid, you could have given me a heart attack!' Tony gasped
'I'm litreally a fucking spider Mr. Stark I'm sure I'm able to land a backflip' Peter chuckled.
'Language!' Steve bellowed from his seat without even looking up from his newspaper.

Tony went back to pick up his seat, obviously while grumbling about how he'd never seen a spider do a backflip so why should Peter. Peter grabbed himself some cinnamon toasts, (I don't know if these are just an english thing but it's cereal) poured himself a sea of milk and sat down at the table next to Tony, not even bothering to consider how he must look right now. Obviously the red eyes, tea stains and pale complexion did not go unnoticed by Nat, she noticed everything.

'So Peter, you're not supposed to be here for another couple of weeks, how come you've come over early?' Nat asked, curious about what had happened. The other avengers nodded in agreement and Clint put his hearing aids in, ready for the story.

Peter froze, he had been preparing to act like nothing had happened, to hide his feelings but he hadn't had time to plan or even remember his tear stained cheeks. Tony glanced over at Peter, concern etched into his features as he prepared to comfort Peter once the story was told.

'Oh uh um my Aunt has just gone on a um like emergency business trip and um yeah so I had to come early and I'm probably going to stay for a couple of days' Peter stammered. How long would he stay? He wondered. How long would Tony Stark be willing to keep him in the tower before giving him to foster care. He'd have to go there legally soon anyway..unless. No. Tony would never adopt him. Peter scolded himself for even thinking of that possibility.

Tony was shocked to say the least. Not only had he never heard Peter lie, (And he was terrible at it obviously) Peter has claimed he was only going to stay for a couple of days. Was Tony not good enough? Oh god he'd have to go to an orphanage legally anyway. Would Peter rather stay at an orphanage then stay with Tony?

As both Peter and Tony sat their silently pondering in their heads, Nat noticed the look of concern, hurt and love on Tony's face. Not to mention the obvious lie that Peter had painted in front of them. Something was up. Something big was playing on both of their minds. However the rest of the Avengers seemed to buy the lie that Peter had sold so she kept her thoughts to herself.

Suddenly Peter stood up with his bowl. His appetite seemed to have run away just like his confidence. After having emptied the cereal from the bowl he placed it in the dishwasher.

'I'm just going to do some summer work or something Mr. Stark' Peter said before scurrying away. Of course he didn't actually have any work and Tony knew this. Consequently Tony stood up, quickly saying he had important work in the lab and followed Peter.
