Twist of Fate

Valkyrie stood outside the meeting room door bored out of her mind, Skulduggery had specifically told her not to go wondering about the sanctuary, as it was currently being searched by sorcerers  for any clues that might lead them to the whereabouts of Tanith Low.

She had no idea as to what the meeting was about, Madame Mist had made it quite clear that she would not be welcome despite the protests not only from herself but from Ghastly, Skulduggery and Ravel. It hurt to think she was being excluded, there was nothing worse than being left in the dark. After pacing the doorway for half an hour, she decided she'd had enough and headed towards the exit.

She was halfway down the coridor when someone caught her hand, "Going somewhere beautiful?". Valkyrie recognised the voice and spun round to find Dexter Vex smiling down at her. She loved that smile. "Yet another meeting I've not been invited to!" she said with a sigh, "Stupid bloody spider" she added, turning to glare at the door, behind which the meeting was being held. "Oh come on now Beautiful", said Vex pulling her closer to him, "show me that smile, I've been dying to see you" he said, pushing a strand of hair off her face. Valkyrie blushed at his touch, and his smile widened. "Fancy a walk? I know a nice place that sells the best ice cream!" he said, winking at her.

"Vex, there is no such thing as a nice place in Roarhaven" Valkyrie laughed rolling her eyes.

"Who said we were staying in Roarhaven? You in beautiful?" he grinned at her expectantly.

"Of course I'm in" she said, grinning back at him, "but I need to let Skulduggery know!" she added, not wanting him to worry.

"Already taken care of my lovely!" he said, pointing down the hall to a Cleaver who had a note taped to his chest saying 'Stolen Val, will drop her off at your's later, love Vex' with two big kisses underneath.

Valkyrie laughed, "You taped a note to a cleaver?"

"What can i say? I'm a genius" replied Vex, "I taught Skulduggery everything he knows" he added with another wink.

They locked eyes, and stayed that way for a moment, before Vex pulled Valkyrie into him and kissed her lips. She relaxed into him and the kiss became more passionate. She slid her arms around his neck, and he ran his hands down her back,  pulling her ever closer.

"I'm starting to think this note was unecessary, what says you Ghastly?" came a familiar voice from down the hall.

Valkyrie and Vex stepped apart, noticing both Skulduggery and Ghastly laughing.

"I think you're right" replied Ghastly with a smile of amusement playing on his lips.

Vex slipped his hand into Valkyrie's and smiled, "Apparently so" he laughed, "I've decided to stick around for a while."

"And does this, by any chance, have anything to do with a certain partner of mine you were so fondly exchanging saliva with merely moments ago?" asked Skulduggery, tilting his head slightly.

"It does indeed" Vex said, turning his head to smile at Valkyrie, "that, and I believe a certain someone has been missing me!" he added.

"I'm guessing by that certain someone you mean me?" laughed Skulduggery.

"Of course!" grinned Vex, striding across the room before pulling Skulduggery into a hug.

"It's good to have you back Dexter" Ghastly said, pulling Vex into a bear hug.

"Thought you could have a Dead Men meeting without me did you? Well let me tell you, as Grand Mage I take these things very seriously!" They all turned to see Erskine Ravel walking towards them, a huge smile on his face.

"Erskine how wonderful of you to grace us with your presence" Skulduggery said with a mocking bow, Erskine rolled his eyes.

"Dr Nye has just informed me that he has found a way to remove the remnant from Tanith, she'd return to normal, we just need to find her!" he smiled at Ghastly, who looked shocked, and then grinned at Ravel.

"This day just keeps getting better!" Ghastly said, still grinning.

"That it does!" smiled Valkyrie, as Vex slipped his arm around her waist.
