Charlotte, Grace and I rushed outside to investigate. The car was outside! We couldn’t believe it! How long had the car been there? Do the cops know?

“What?! How did the car get here?! Is this my car, or is it a rental car that looks like my car?”

“It’s your car I believe. It says Char56 on the license plate. Isn’t that what your license plate used to say?”

“Yes, but how is it here?”

We all walked outside to call the police. Maybe they will know how it got there.

     Ring, ring.

“Hello?” The officer on the other line was not either of the ones that were at our house yesterday.

“Yes, this is Charlotte Rind; I called yesterday about a missing car. I looked in my front yard this morning, and the car was in the drive way. May I speak to either Officer George or Officer Gina?”

     “Yes, Ma’am.”

We heard murmuring in the distance.

     “Hello, this is Officer Gina.”

“Yes, this is Charlotte Rind. I called yesterday about a missing car?”

“Yes, sorry that we haven’t brought you a rental car yet.”

“No, no, that’s ok. I’m actually calling to ask you something about my car.”

     “Which is?”

You could tell by the voice of the Officer that she didn’t have that much time to talk to Charlotte, Grace, and I.

“My car, well, how should I put this? I went outside, and I noticed my car was outside. It’s in my driveway.”

“Does it have the same license plate?”

“Yes. It’s most certainly my car. It still even has my air freshener. Everything inside is how I left it. My car is in my driveway.”

Charlotte was very convincing in this conversation, but the Officer had a good point.

     “Where are the keys?”

Charlotte didn’t answer for a moment, but before she could answer she heard a noise on the other line. It was an alarm of some sort.

“Sorry Miss Rind, but I must be going now. That alarm means that there is a big emergency. I have to go, but I will most certainly be back in touch with you.”

With that, Officer Gina hung up.

Charlotte, Grace, and I walked outside to see if the thief had returned the keys as well. Instead, we found another nasty note.

“Hello again girls, at this moment of time you have found your car. Congrats, you can see. I decided to give you your car back, but not your keys. I still believe you will tell my little secret. Give me some proof that my secret is safe and I will consider giving you your keys back. Good day, girls.”

Charlotte would have been steaming out of her eyes if it was possible. Then she smirked. She had been making a plan, and it was going to be devious.

“Grace, go call the police. Rose you come help me look for that doctor’s note that Dr. Trent wrote us.”

We all three walked inside and started our plan. Grace was a little confused though.

“Charlotte, what do you expect me to say to the cops?”
