I get home from practice with Mrs. Thalia, my ballet teacher. My feet are throbbing. I through my red gym bad full of ballet outfits, shoes and such onto the floor. I take my shoes, too too, and leotard off leaving me in my bra and under-where. It was forbidden to were your undergarments in the wold of dance but Mrs. Thalia let it slide.
I open the cupboard and pull out a black, boys sock filled with rice and stick it in the microwave for two minuets, its supposed to help your muscles relax, all the dance teachers recommended using them. I picked up the blue rather large bucket from under the granite top counter and fill it with hot steamy water. The steam rises into the air, I begin to put two fingers over my mouth pretending to smoke when my mom walked in. "What do you think you are doing, Annabelle?" She said with concern. "Um..I..was...um?" She set her keys and purse on the table. "Don't do it again, and pick up your bag, we do this everyday you'd think you'd learn." She scolded. Her heels clicked on the hardwood floor all the way to her room down the hall.
My family was very strict religion. That meant no swearing, no inappropriate jokes, no weird friends. I was kind of held back if you will. My best friend Samantha was weird. She didn't believe in God and my family frowned upon her for that. She had an eye brow piercing on her left eye brow and my mom hated it. It became a problem so she just takes it out before she comes over. Sam's style was kind of puck and mine was more elegant even though I would do anything to have her style but my parents say its anti-God. She hair is died a pastel purple and she's about 5"3'ish on her good days.
I put the bucket on the floor and stuck my feet inside letting out a sigh of happiness and relief. My little brother, Brent ran in from outside forgetting to shut the door and leaving a trail of mud from forgetting to take his shoes off. "Hey!" I yelled. He came running back. "Yeah." He said trying to catch his breathe. I looked at the floor and the door. "What?" He said. "The door and the floor." I rolled my eyes. "I'll get it later, why are you naked?." He said before he ran back down the hall way and up the stairs leaving more mud for me to clean up because he wasn't going to do it later. I quickly got up off the floor and grabbed my sweatshirt off one of the stools to cover myself.
I was scrubbing the floor on my hands and knees when my moms heels started clicking up the hall. "Honey, you got mail." I jumped up leaving the soapy rag on the floor. "Did you read it?" I said with excitement. "Juilliard." She smiled and held it up and waved it around. "Give me, give me!" I tried to snatch it from her and succeeded.
I had applied for Juilliard my last weeks of being a sophomore. I was in the midst of my Junior year and I couldn't believe it was finally here. They usually come in your Senior year because so many people apply. I carefully but violently opened the orangish yet yellow package.
"We have seen your techniques and your ability of dance and we'd like to welcome you to the school of dance, Juilliard. We can't wait to see what kind of potential you behold....."
I didn't bother reading the reast because I've read the highlight and that's all I needed. I started jumping up and down and screaming simultaneously, my mother did the same. I forgot about about the wet rag and slipped hitting my face making a bruise on my left temple. My mom helped me up and gave me a bag of frozen pease.
The first thing I did after freaking out and breaking my face was call Sam on my iPhone. "I GOT IT!!" I yelled over and over. We were both screaming making each other deaf for the moment. I hung up after I realized she wasn't going to stop screaming anytime soon. Right after I hung up with Sam I just kept reading the paper from Juilliard over and over. I rolled over to my stomach and put my face into my pillow and just let out the loudest scream while kicking my bed. It looked like I was having a tantrum but I was really just overwhelmed with happiness, until my mother came in and told me to study for finals.
An ordinary girl like me, in a famous school like Juilliard. I couldn't wait.
