He was dark and mysterious

It made her delirious

A feeling someone's never given her

Funny how it's him out of all people

Carter Price

I crossed a big 'X' over the dumb words and threw my journal on the floor, the thick material landing on the plush carpet with a thud beside my bed.

I huffed and stared up at the plain ceiling, my mind drifting back to what Carter was saying earlier today. Did he really want to take me out on an actual date?

My first real date

That's right. If my date with Carter happened, which I highly doubt it will, it would be my first. Carter's probably had a million girlfriends and most likely didn't think twice about what he said to me, not knowing he'd have me thinking about it all day and night. He was just being himself. Everyone knew Carter never had an off switch when it came to flirting with a girl within a five feet radius of him.

"Stop it, Lesley. You're overthinking," I mumbled, feeling my cheeks flush at the thought of me and Carter going on a date.

The fact that he was also my next door neighbor didn't help at all. I could look over and literally catch myself staring at him shirtless. I shouldn't even be thinking about Carter like this. He did things I never dreamed of doing and has way more experience when it comes to relationships. Sure, I've been asked out by guys, but none of them gave me butterflies when they looked at me for a short second or talked to me about homework.

It was a stupid crush that I'd get over in a couple days. I know I will because Carter Price is not making his way into my heart.

Ding

I checked my phone, and felt my stomach do flips when I seen his name pop up.

Carter: Hey. Where do you want to meet up tomorrow? Mine or yours?

Me: Your place is fine.

Carter: Cool. Folks won't be home ;)

Me: You're not funny.

Carter: You like it.

I decided to ignore him.

"Sorry, what did you just say?" Cara asked, eyes wide as I opened my locker to gather my books for my next class. "He's tutoring you? Carter Price?"

"That's what I said."

"Oh. My. God. You are so lucky!"

I chuckled, knowing Cara would be the one to say something like that. "Yea, 'cause he's top in my class," I retorted.

"And because he's like the hottest guy in our school, Les!" she exclaimed, eyes darting behind me for a quick second before they flew back to look at me with a puzzled expression.

"What are yo--"

"Hey Les," Carter said, throwing an over my shoulder and walking me away from Cara and into a secluded corner. "So, we have a problem," he said, his tall frame now standing over me as I stood with my back against the wall.

"What is it?"

"I can't, uh, help you tonight."

"Um," I laughed, "okay, how come?"

He rubbed the back of his neck, looking around like he was scared he was going to get caught by someone. "Something came up and I'm going out with this girl I've been talking to."
