Dr.Samuels came by to check on Dylan again. He asked Dylan why he hadn't eaten and he responded with a simple " I'm not hungry." Dr.Samuels eyed Dylan and sighed, getting up to dispose of his gloves. " You have to eat you know. How do you expect to get better if you won't eat?" Dylan stared at him and looked back down. He didn't want to be bothered. He just wanted to be left alone. Dr.Samuels read Dylan's face and let him be not bombarding him with any further questions. After all it wasn't his kid so why should he be so interrogative? Dylan got up and ate his food and drank his medicine. He knew he had to get better in order to leave this place quicker.
-A few days later-
"Well Dylan you recovered well, you are now able to leave." Dr.Samuels put down his papers and smiled at Dylan. Dylan looked at him and opened his mouth to say something but immediately closed it when he saw his parents in the doorway. He was bewildered but filled with hatred at the same time. Dr.Samuels turned towards them, got up to greet them and informed them of Dylan's recovery. Dylan's father eyed him every few seconds with a twisted smile on his face. ~ No. ... I can't go back, they almost killed me this time and I'm sure they'll try again in the future.~ Dylan walked towards them and got in the middle of them and out the other side. " Dylan don't be rude." " Dylan, honey were are you going?" It was too much Dylan couldn't tolerate it, all his fears were clawing at him. He needed to run from them. Dylan felt the world rush right through him. The voices were after him he had to get away. "Dylan! Dylan! Stop! Stop running!" He managed to silence them. He stopped outside the hospital and caught his breath. He heard the voices gaining on him and he made his escape. He ran again and stopped at an abandoned neighborhood, everything in that neighborhood was boarded up. He walked around trying to find a place to hide. He was afraid of being caught and turned in to the police. He didn't want to go back home, but where was a 15 year old boy to go? He had no relatives and even if he did have relatives he was sure they would've returned him to his parents. No one wanted another kid in their house, their kids were already driving them crazy. Dylan came to the center of the neighborhood which was actually a small town. He saw small shops, they all had "Sorry, we're closed" signs on their doors all except the bakery. An old lady was preparing to leave for the day. Dylan quickly walked over and tapped her shoulder. She screamed. " No. Please don't rob me of the little profit I made today. Have mercy. Please!" She held her hands in front of her face using them as a shield against him. Dylan's skin was overtaken by goosebumps and chills. He tried to calm her down and assured her he wasn't going to assault her. "Shh... Ma'am ... I ain't gonna steal from you." Once the lady had calmed down, she looked a Dylan and asked what he wanted. " Ma'am I'm homeless and I just wanted to ask you for a job so I can provide for myself." She listened to him and felt sympathy for the little boy asking her for a job in order to continue living. " Ok. Young man come with me I'll cook you a nice dinner and let you sleep in for the night, but if you abuse of my kindness I'll skin you alive! Oh and next time you creep up on me like that I'm going to clobber you with my cane or purse .... Or whatever I'm holding on to!" Dylan was relieved the lady had offered him to spend the night in while he planned on where he was going to live. He helped her walk to her house and climb the porch steps. Inside her house he sat on the couch she had told him to sit on. " Wait here, boy. Remember if you run off with something I'll skin you." Dylan watched her go upstairs. ~ I hope my parents don't find me. I'm sure they just went home and resumed their normal lives. Please don't let them find me, I hope they forget about me.~ "Child can you help me set the table?" ~ Huh? When did she come down and fix dinner?~ " Coming,Ma'am!" Dylan and the lady ate pork chops with rice and beans. When they finished, Dylan washed the dishes while she cleaned the table. She led him to her guest room and showed him where the bathroom was. She also gave him clothes to wear since his reeked of unnameable things. That night he slept like an angel all his worry left his mind for a little while.
