Chapter 3
I felt my arm being shaken. My eyes fluttered open. I looked over and I saw ruth, her face lit up and excited.
"We're here, stoney! We made it!"
I rubbed my eyes and looked at my watch. it was 8 in the morning, Texas time. that meant Id slept the entire 13 hour flight. Wow... I looked out the window and was astonished at the gorgeous view we had, a birds eye view of the city of London, where my dreams would come true.
"Flight Attendants, prepare for landing." The captain spoke over the plane's intercom. I took out my earbuds, turned off my music, and put my ipod away. I folded up the blanket Ruth must've put on my lap, and stuck Arnold in my carry on bag. Arnold is our giraffe pillow pet. And by 'our', I mean Dawn and I. He's our adopted love-child. (No, Im not a lesbian. We're just crazy best friends:P) I took a swig from Ruth's water bottle and looked at my watch. I moved the time foward 6 hours. Ugh, time changes. I was going to get jet lag SO bad... So, now it was 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
The plane soon landed, and I whipped out my phone to call Nat. then I realized, I need a functioning phone... We went through customs again, grabbed our luggage, and looked for Nat outside of the terminal. we spotted her, holding a neon orange sighn that said "STONEY! ROO! IM OVER HERE!" I had the best cousin ever...
We ran to her and she greeted us with hugs. "I tried to call you when the plane landed, but my US phone doesnt work here!"
"Thats my first surprise for you two. TADAA" She handed each of us a white iPhone 4S. "Dont thank me, thank your parents. Also thank them for your BRAND NEW CREDIT CARDS!" She said in her terrible game- show-host voice.
At this point both of us were jumping up and down, overly excited. Both of our surprises were decorated with fond memories. My phone had a waterproof 1D case Id been wanting for months and my credit card had the picture all of my friends and I took on the night of senior prom. It was gorgeous, and made me feel closer to them, though I was thousands of miles away.
"BUUUUT, theres a little bit of bad news..." Nat added. "The water system in our building went out. so, no showering or laundry or cooking until it gets fixed..."
"Not too bad. There are laundromats and restaurants for a reason." I smiled, giving reasonable solutions. "and we can find a gym to get a membership to and use their showers. At least till it gets fixed."
Nat scruffed my hair. " I missed you,Stoney. Youre always full of great ideas."
we jumped into her car and drove up to her new apartment building. "Well, girls, welcome home!"
Nat grabbed our bags and we dragged them to the elevator- I mean, LIFT! I need to get used to all this Brit slang. My cousin nat was a beautiful girl. She is 19, her career already soaring. Shes 5'9", skinny. with tan skin, long blonde hair, and piercing blue eyes. she could have been Ruth's twin, if she wasnt half a year or so older. they looked so similar, though Ruth was just a bit shorter and paler. They got all their genes from my dad's side of the family. I got my 5'7, big boned, auburn hair, hazel eyed, white skinned body from my mother. I was different from them, but we resembled close enough to always be noted as sisters.
The lift went up, and soon dinged at our floor, where our penthouse was. Our family wasnt exactly hard for money. My father was the CEO and President of one of the largest companies in the US. Nat smiled as she handed ruth and I each a key, and I took mine and unlocked the door to my new home.
"Since I only moved in a few months go and I knew you two were coming, I only decorated my room and the main rooms. Tomorrow we can go shopping and you can furnish and decorate your own rooms. Till then, yall can sleep on the couches. It wont be long. Youll survive." Nat winked at us and we laughed. Yep, she's still got her southern twang.
