My name is Stone Burgin, and I'm 17 years old. I'm just a small-town girl from East Texas. I never would have thought fate would throw what it did at me, but it did. ...

Chapter 1

*BEEP BEEBEEP BEEP BEEBEEP BEEP BEEBEEEP*

I rolled over and smacked my alarm clock off. Friday, May 24th. Graduation. Today was the day. Freedom at last. And the best part- tomorrow I was flying to London to live with my sister Ruth and cousin Nat. Life was going exactly as I wanted it to.

I rubbed my eyes and groaned. I turned my radio and "What Makes You Beautiful" blasted. I smiled a little and slid out of bed. I stood up and stretched as I hummed along. Grabbing my brush and my straightener, I styled my long, auburn hair and stuck it in a side braid. Ruth waltzed in and pulled me in for a big hug. "My widdle baby sissy is all grown up! Graudation high school, flying off to live with me in London..."

"I'm not your "widdle baby sissy". You're only two years older... And WERE living with Nat. So hush up and help me get ready..."

She laughed and walked to my closet, grabbing my skinny jeans, a long, flowy, purple tank and some bright green pumps she got me as a grad present.

"This is what you will wear, I am doing your makeup, and you shall love me forever and ever amen. You're welcome."

Ruth is SO demanding, but I love it. I love her so much... She wasn't around that often, she lived with her mom and step dad. You see, when Ruth was born, my dad and her mom split up. Then dad found my mom and they had me, making Ruth my half sister. She stayed with us some weekends, but not a lot. Still, we were extremely close and she's everything a normal sister was and is for me.

After I was dressed and ready, we piled into the car and drove to the school. They dropped me off in front of the auditorium where all us seniors were meeting early. Mom handed me my cap and robe, and I walked inside. I checked in and went backstage. At my school, everyone decorated their cap with a collage of some sort. Ruth had decorated mine. She wouldn't let me see it before today, she wanted to surprise me. I looked at it, and I beamed with joy. It was perfect. She painted on neon blue waves and my swim team logo, as well as our softball logo and choir and theater logos. My name was written fancily in purple writing over the middle, and the edges were coated in glitter. She even dyed the tassel red, in honor of my beautiful hair. On the side, she had stuck a post-it note. 'Stoney- check the left underside corner. Your welcome ;)'

I checked, and my smile grew wider. She had painted on the One Direction logo in sheer shimmer paint. Visible, but discreet and unnoticeable if you didn't know it was there. Perfect.

I love One Direction. I love their music and their personalities (and their gorgeous faces, of course). I'm not one of those over obsessive fan girls who stalk them and stuff, but I still love them. They inspire me. And Rose knew it, and incorporated them into my grad cap.

I go to a private school, so my senior class consisted of 60 kids I've known since 1st grade, making all of us as close as family. I hugged all my friends and my heart started pumping as we filed out into our seats. The headmaster made a speech, as did our principals. They called up the valedictorian, my best friend John. My pocket buzzed and I saw a text from him. "It wouldve been you they were calling if Mr. Varwell hadn't given you a B on your last science project ;) Haha"

I held in a giggle and flashed him a thumbs up as he read his speech. It was true, I came in second to him, but only barely. He deserved it, he worked hard for it. Whereas I just... Well, was good at school, I guess. Never had to study. Made easy A's on everything (well, almost everything). People hated me for it. That's why I didn't have too many friends. I had John, Dawn, Kris, Em, Mark, and Connor, and that was it.Hopefully I'd be able to make more friends once we got to London.

John walked off the stage and I responded. "You know it, bud. Nice speech there. Congrats :)"

He responded back. "Good luck. You know your song?"

My eyes went like a deer in headlights. My song. I knew it backwards and forwards, but I had totally forgotten they wanted me to sing before they passed out the diplomas. I ignored the Pastor's speech and went over it in my head a couple of times before I heard them call me up. I had been asked to sing the song that had gotten me my state and national titles with our performing arts team, 'Corner of the Sky' from the musical 'Pippin'. The band accompanied me, and I sang. The song ended, and I got cheers from the crowd as I made my way back to my seat.

They called out our names, I got my diploma, and the ceremony ended. Then there was the after party. I went and celebrated my last night in the US. Yep, London was tomorrow. I couldn't wait for a fresh start.

Author's Note:

Hey Y'all :) This is my first story I'm "publishing", so it might not be too great. I hope you'll keep reading, maybe give me some feedback, and give me ideas and suggestions too. It doesnt seem like one yet (cuz its only the first chapter and I take forever to set everything up), but this is gonna be a One Direction fanfic. So yeah... :) Thanks, and I'll try and update soon!
