As much as you wished you didn't, you had a habit of noticing things. It was what made you so good in the academy, what made you climb the ranks much quicker than the other recruits in your class and part of the reason you made it into the top percentile. You caught on to things that normally wouldn't cause a second glance from the untrained eye. And maybe it was a blessing in that area of your life and maybe it would prove to be a blessing in others further down the road, but right now it filled your gut with anxiety and felt nothing less than a curse.

Because Waverly was keeping something from you.

No, you didn't notice it right away , but you were just so happy to simply be talking to her and after everything that happened you figured she'd be at least a little out of sorts, so you ignored your initial gut feeling that something was off. She always had a lot to say and you always listened, but sometimes she would look like she wanted to say more and would ultimately hold back. You started to pay more attention to her body language during video calls and noticed she would start doing this thing with her hands when she was talking to you, more of a nervous habit than anything. You figured she was doing it unconsciously and every time you asked if she was okay, it would stop, but eventually it would start up again whenever the conversation lulled. And yeah okay, there could be countless other explanations for that, but up until then everything seemed fine. Conversation flowed seamlessly, you joked around, you teased her and she teased back, hell you even flirted with her and she flirted back.

You didn't want to pry though so for the rest of the week, you didn't mention it. If Waverly wanted to tell you, she would. She had no problem telling you things in the past; it was her choice, her business.

But then Wynonna started acting weird.

Whenever you and Waverly called, she would avoid eye contact, or simply stay out of frame entirely, which up until that point was completely out of character. Before, she was always with Waverly if she wasn't sleeping or at the bar or shooting at something in the yard. She never had a lot to say, but you picked up on the fact that she didn't particularly want to be alone and at least her shoulder or a leg was always in frame and you found comfort in that somehow. Now, you don't even get a glimpse of one of her misplaced curls at the corner of the screen.

And even worse, Ana was pretending it wasn't happening. You knew she noticed just as much as you did, it was kind of hard for her not to. Every time Waverly averted her eyes or shied away from any topic relating to Ana herself, you felt residual guilt in your heart and a specific need that you couldn't fill and you knew damn well those feelings weren't coming from you.

At first, you thought maybe Waverly hadn't accepted your quirk quite as easily as she had let on. That maybe she was weirded out by the fact that you could change your entire chemistry and morph into a glorified house pet that was just over six feet tall while on all fours. Ana shut that thought down almost the second it popped into your head, reminding you how Waverly didn't so much as flinch during your last change, and somehow you knew she was there with you in the vault until Wynonna dragged her back upstairs in the morning. But still, there wassomething .

When neither Earp brought it up by the weekend, you decided to nudge them along by very subtly asking Waverly what the hell was going on during one of your daily chats. You knew Wynonna was in the room because she was stomping around like she was trying to break through the floorboards and into the crawlspace, but she hadn't said a word since the camera turned on and she didn't show her face.

Conversation petered out eventually. Waverly was sat at the kitchen table with books strewn across the surface and her laptop open in front of her, while she pretended she wasn't fidgeting or glancing at the computer screen like it held secrets you weren't important enough to know about. You were laying in the bed in the guest room, things still somewhat awkward between you and your sister, and trying to read a book you found on the shelf in the living room. It was boring and didn't hold your attention as much as you had hoped it would and Waverly's squirming proved to be much more distracting. Putting your book down, you figured now was as good a time as any to find out some answers. You never were good at being indirect. "So, what happened during the full moon that has you more nervous than a guilty perp, Wynonna pretending I don't exist-"
