Kail awoke with his arms chained together. This was definitely not the Pelican. He quickly remembered where he was. Well, not the exact location as he was unconscious when they brought him here, but he could at least recall what had happened before he fell asleep.

Kail jerked his head around. He was not alone. He could sense it. He heard a snicker coming from the corner of the room.

“Finally awake I see,” the man said getting to his feet. “I have been watching you.” He stepped toward Kail out of the shadows and into plain sight. Kail was still groggy but could make out long dark wisps of hair. It was greasy and smelled like it hadn’t been washed in over a season. The man got close to his face and smiled. He was missing more teeth than Tusk, and the stink of his hair was nothing compared to his breath.

“You a prisoner here too?” Kail asked unenthusiastically.

The man just laughed, giving Kail a stronger whiff of his breath. Kail tried not to gag. The man backed away. “You were out a long time,” the man said.

          “How long exactly?”

“That double dosage of immobilizers plus the blood that you lost really knocked you out good,” the man said with a steadily rising pitch. The high voice seemed like it could not possibly be coming from the man that stood before him.

“You don’t like answering questions do you?” Kail asked annoyed at not knowing what exactly was happening.

“Fine,” the man began, “The answer to your second question first. Let’s see, you were brought in here,” he began to mumble to himself and count on his fingers. He was missing one on his right hand. “You have been asleep for twenty-seven hours and fourteen minutes. You said you wanted to know exactly, right?”

It was the day after Kail had invaded the castle. He didn’t feel like he had slept that long, but he was unsure of the effects of the immobilizer, so nothing surprised him.

“Secondly, I will give the answer your first question which was asked by you when we first met, which was a few seconds ago,” he said clapping his hands at the trickily worded sentence. “I am Sequor, but more importantly, I have the privilege of being your executioner.”

Kail tightened his body. He had dreamed about killing this man many times before. Now he was in a cell with him and chained to the wall. This moment taunted him. He held back his words for the time being.

“You are my biggest celebrity execution ever,” Sequor said excitedly. “You should bring in quite a crowd.” Kail decided not to react to anything that Sequor said. “You are scheduled for execution at noon day, as that is the standard time for all executions. Would you like to know how you are going to die?”

Kail didn’t flinch or even acknowledge Sequor’s presence. Sequor dropped to a knee to look up at Kail in the eyes. “I asked you a question,” Sequor said seriously, his voice lowering two full octaves. Kail reacted out of sheer amazement, but kept his mouth shut. “Answer me!” Sequor shouted slapping Kail’s face.

That slap hurt considerably less than Pendola’s. He wasn’t sure if it was because Pendola could hit with more force, or the fact that he had a full day to recover from all the other pain he felt. Either way, he decided to play along with Sequor’s little game. “Yes, please tell me. I have nowhere to be for another hour and a half anyway.”

Sequor smiled and pointed out the window. It was town square. A large barred, wooden structure was erected there. “We worked all yesterday to put it up. Oh I really outdid myself this time.”
