The days seemed to blend together. Kail wasn’t sure exactly how many had passed, but he did know that they were getting close to Leviden. At least, that was what Foghorn had said.

Kail sat perched in the crow’s nest, looking through his telescope. There was Leviden. It would be the last stop before reaching Nocturnal Island less than a day’s journey away.

Leviden was a peninsula coming off the coast of Dameria, the largest continent in the known world. The odd thing was, Leviden, the skinny land mass, was the only inhabited area of the entire continent. More accurately, the only human inhabited area. There was no telling what lived in the dense jungle and mountains south of it.

The Pelican was moving at a pretty good pace. “How much longer, Foggy?” Kail shouted down.

“At this speed,” he thought for a moment. “I’d say no more than thirty minutes.”

Perfect. Kail was getting excited. Any information he could learn about the Nocturnal would come in handy with negotiations.

He climbed out of the nest and down the rope ladder. It was midday. He could tell by the location of the sun. Most of the crew was sound asleep though, as time meant nothing after sailing the monotonous areas of the sea. Kail decided to take it upon himself to rouse the crew from their slumber.

He passed a few of his crew members playing some dice game below deck and wandered into the kitchen. He grabbed a large metal pot and spoon, and tiptoed to the bunk room. He stood in the middle for a second to see if anyone was stirring. “Rise and Shine!” he yelled banging the spoon against the pot. Immediately the men rolled out of bed and got to their feet. Kail woke them like this every once in a while as practice in case there was an emergency that required all hands on deck. This time Kail had a dual purpose. He hoped the commotion would wake Selestia above deck as well, as he felt it inappropriate to go into her room and do it himself.

“We are approaching Leviden,” Kail announced. His words were met with tired groans. Some men flopped back into bed. “Does anyone want to join me? I hear they have great sour bread?”

Faber sat up. Most didn’t move.

“Ok so, Faber, Jones, Collins, and Bratch,” Kail counted. “No one else?” The room was silent, except for the shuffling of the men putting on their fresh clothes. In Faber’s case fresh clothes meant no shirt and a two pairs of pants cut and sewn together to fit his tree trunk legs.

Jones collected a handful of meccas to be used on their breakfast/lunch/ whatever it really was at this time of day.

They made their way to deck. Leviden could be clearly seen now without the aid of a telescope. The backdrop to the town was impressive. The mountains stood majestically behind it. The tall red trees blanketed the entire landscape, like fur on a wooly mammoth. The town, though not small, was dwarfed by the prominence of this natural structure. On the far end of the town was a building used to store logs. This was a logging town.

Kail realized he wasn’t the only one enjoying the view. Selestia and Keiran sat together near the railing marveling at creation. Selestia was wearing the “normal clothes” she had requested, while Keiran for some reason, felt the need to wear his black chameleon skinned suit.

“Don’t you think you’ll be extremely hot in that?” Kail asked him.

“Never know when I’ll need it,” Keiran responded strapping a few various guns to his thighs and back.

“Are you both coming as well?” Faber asked.

“We were planning on it,” Selestia answered. “If it’s ok with our fearless leader over there.” She smiled at Kail as she said it.
