"Derek! Hurry up; we're running late!" I yelled through the ginormous house we shared with Izzy and Alex.
"Coming!" replied Derek.
He came running down the stairs in his long coat and button down shirt. He gave me a quick kiss and we walked out to the car.
"So what's on the agenda for you today, Mer?" Derek asked me.
"Well, I have an appendectomy, then I'm on Sloan's post-op's," I replied, knowing I had a busy day ahead of me. "What about you?"
"Well, I have a craniotomy and then I'm running the pit." Derek replied.
We pulled up to the hospital and got out of the van. I grabbed Derek's hand and we walked into the hospital.
"Good morning Bailey!" Derek said as we stepped into the elevator.
"And a good morning to you! How was your day off?" Doctor Bailey replied.
"Really great," I replied.
The elevator stopped on the fourth floor and me and Derek got off.
"Have a good one!" Doctor Bailey yelled as we exited the elevator.
We walked until we got to the residents lounge then stopped to say goodbye for the day.
"See you later, Mer," Derek said as he pulled me
into a quick hug and gave me a passionate kiss. He pulled away and then proceeded to walk to the Attending's lounge.
I opened the door to the residents lounge to see Izzy and Alex already getting dressed, but no Christina. Christina was never late, so I was really wondering where she was.
"Hey Mer," Alex said.
"Hey, have you seen Christina?" I asked him.
"Not yet. She must be sick or something." he replied.
"Okay," I replied. I didn't have time to ponder the thought when Chief Webber walked in and told me to hurry as the mans appendix was getting worse. I quickly threw on some scrubs and ran to the scrub room.
"Nice day for  an appendectomy, right Doctor Grey?" Chief Webber said.
"Definitely, Chief." I replied.
We walked into the OR and got in our scrubs, then I walked over to the patient and started the surgery.

I finished my craniotomy and ran down to the pit, as I was being paged there my entire surgery.
"Motorcycle vs. Mack, coming in hot," said the nurse at the desk.
The paramedics burst through the door and started to give the vitals.
"Patients name?" I asked as we ran down the hall with our patient.
"Christina Yang," the medic said.
My jaw dropped as we wheeled her into a trauma room. Meridith's best friend could die, and she might not even be here to get to say goodbye.
"Push 10 of Morphine. She's waking up and going to be in a lot of pain," I ordered the nurse. "And someone page Doctor Grey now!"

"Good job everyone!" I said as i walked out of the scrub room. I checked my pager and saw a 911 to the pit, so I ran downstairs.
"Derek?!" I yelled.
"Meredith," Derek said as he walked toward me, "It's Christina. She's been in an accident and she's not looking good."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Christina might die. I couldn't talk, so I ran into the trauma room she was in. As soon as I saw her body on the table, I started to cry. She couldn't die!
"Mer?" someone said. It sounded muffled though.
I stood there until I started to feel dizzy, so I walked over to Derek. He put his arm around me and held me tightly. Then, I started to see black spots.
"D-Derek?" I said, starting to feel dizzy.
"What's wrong Mer?" Derek said.
"I-," was all I could choke out before my body went limp and Derek had to hold me up so that I didn't fall when I blacked out.
