“It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.”
― André Gide, Autumn Leaves
I took in a deep breath, completely nervous for what is about to happen. I know that I was early, I wanted to prove to Alfred and Mattie that I am healthy enough to do things on my own. I got dressed, ate breakfast and left for the meeting an hour before it started, of course leaving them a note so they don’t freak and think I faded away.
We had flown in yesterday; the meeting was in Beijing, China. I actually wished I could stay longer and marvel at the beauty around me but my doctor refused to let me out on a trip like this for more than three days. At least I could see Arthur again and meet all the other countries I have yet to meet, or at least the one’s that will be at the meeting today.
Pulling out my small compact mirror, I checked to see that my make-up was alright, it didn’t even look like I was sick, thankfully. I had been able to gain only ten pounds form the diet change, though I hoped for more, it will have to do. My arms and legs still looked quite small but they were starting to fill out more and look less like twigs.
I took in a deep breath but before I could move to open the doors, two slightly pale arms wrapped around my waist and lifted me in the air, only to stumble back and fall form the surprise of the lightness.
(You thought Iggy? Nope~ :3 He is too Tsundere to do that.)
“Ohnohnohnohnohn” I could hear the strange laugh behind me and quickly got up then offered a hand to the Frenchman known as Francis Bonnefey or rather known as the personification of France. He still looked the same as he did when I last saw him, before he lost Canada to Arthur.
He took my hand and once he was on his feet, instead of letting go of my hand, he kissed it then looked up at me and smirked. Unlike most girls, I know that Francis is considered quite attractive but his looks didn’t affect me in the least. My heart was already stolen by another blonde man.
“Hello to you to, Francis. Long time no see.” I said calmly and smiled at him, but he seemed to frown, not pleased with something. Was it my greeting?
“(f/n), why are you wearing make-up?” My heart dropped when I heard that. Had he noticed that quickly? How? I had even a professional help me this morning. Before I could ask anything, he moved his hand to touch my face, most likely to wipe it away but I jerked my head away from his hand.
“Francis, if I tell you why, will you not try to wipe it away?” I pleaded, hoping that he would agree to the deal. I know it was a stretch but I needed to keep my make-up on so I don’t look as sick as I am.
Francis thought, I could see the wheels turning in his head based on his facial expression and then he nodded. I ran a hand through my (h/c) and let out a sigh. I was trying to grasp the words that were choking up my already dry throat. “For the past several years, I’ve fallen ill due to the poor state of my country. I have yet to be at a single meeting so I wanted to go to this one so I can meet some old and new faces.” I said, trying to sound calm but even I could hear the shake in my weak voice.
I could see the flash of concern in his eyes but before he could voice any of the thoughts running through his blonde head, the double door opened form behind my body. I turned on my heel to be met with a pair of the most beautiful shade of green that could ever be a hue for orbs.
I could feel my heart leap up in joy and get stuck in my throat as I try to keep the heat from rising to my cheeks. He still looked the same, which should come as no surprise to me but it seems the years have changed Alfred, Matthew, and Francis, so I just expected them to change him as well. I took a step back and forced a smile onto my pale lips. “Hello, England. Long time no see, huh?” I kept my voice light but I swore I heard it crack. Thankfully, Arthur was clearly distracted by something else and he was quite dense, but Francis on the other hand heard it as loud as a bell toll.
