They were in 8th grade. The two boys sat across the classroom on opposite sides. The boy with the blue hair day at the back, farthest to the left and never said a word. The other boy sat with everyone else and was a social butterfly. He was always laughing and smiling with the others while Jahseh, just sat in the back and listened. He never said anything else at school after a rumor went around that he slept around with the football team. It ruined his reputation. He got called things like "hoe" or "slut". Before, he was popular and people would comment on how beautiful he was, but when he came out as gay, people began to treat him differently. Especially the boys. People began to harass him in the hallways. The football team was physical while everyone else just shouted rude slurs at him. Then, after that he just gave up and stopped trying to talk to people. Stokeley never had anything negative said about him. He was on everyone's good side and usually most people liked him. He's social and likes to cheer up every person he sees that's in a bad mood, but he never tried to talk to Jahseh.

"Sometimes, i wish people didn't like Stokeley as much as they do" Jahseh thought.

He has always wanted to be his friend but never had the courage to say anything to him. On top of that, he likes him. Stokeley's straight anyways, so he wouldn't have a chance. There were so many thick girls around him all the time that he probably never even knew Jahseh existed. Whenever someone even calls him "gay" in a joking way he gets serious and denies it. Stokeley also had a contagious smile, so whenever Jahseh heard him laugh or saw him smile, he would do the same. People always gave him weird looks because of if and he was accused of being a psycho. He ignored it. Jahseh began to get lost in his thoughts.

"Hi." Stokeley said to him.

Jahseh looked confused at first and looked around to see who he was talking to. Stokeley noticed this and chuckled.

"Nope. I'm talking to you." he said.

"Oh..hi.." Jahseh whispered.

"Why don't I ever see you at lunch? Or around anywhere..? Are you new?" he asked.

"No.. I eat my lunch in the library." Jahseh whispered. As he said it out loud, he realized how embarrassing it actually was.

"Well why don't you sit at lunch with me and my friends?" he said pointing to the group of people. "We don't bite, I swear." he said smiling.

Jahseh smiled too. And nodded, agreeing to sit with them.

"Well I guess i'll see you at lunch." he said. "What's your name? I'm Stokeley."

"My name's Jahseh."

~Lunch Period~

Jahseh's nerves were acting up. His hands were shaking when he went to grab the lunch tray. Every step he took made his legs shake and he felt as if he was going to fall over. His hands shook even more as the lunch lady began to add food to his plate. He looked around for Stokeley and saw him. At first, he hesitated but then, they made eye contact and Stokeley motioned for him to come sit down. The other boys in the group saw Jahseh and looked annoyed at first.

"They know" he thought.

He exhaled and went to sit down. After about 3 minutes of silence, Stokeley began to speak.

"Bruh, did y'all see that fine ass new girl?" he asked the group. That sentence made Jahseh's skin crawl and he became uncomfortable. The boys looked at eachother then back at Stokeley. The one with the red hair snickered and said,

"Well, I bet Jahseh didn't." he said. Jahseh shifted uncomfortably in the seat.

"Oh you guys know Jahseh?" he said. The blue haired boy began to tap his foot in anxiousness as the conversation got closer and closer to ruining the new friendship with the friend he'd just made.

"Well of course we know Jahseh. I'm on the football team." one of the boys said. Tears welled up in his Jahsehs eyes and he looked away. He knew that he didn't sleep with them but him saying anything wouldn't do any good. It didn't matter.

"What?" he asked.

"Oh, you don't know about your little friend here, do you? At the beginning of the year, he slept with the entire team, didn't you, Jahseh?" one of the boys said. The tears rolled down the boys cheeks as he got up with his plate, threw it away, and walked out of the cafeteria. Stokeley went after him.

Jahseh ran to the nearest empty boys bathroom and ran into it. He fell to his knees right as soon as he got in and started crying hysterically. He thought he had made a friend but they messed it up. He heard footsteps.

"Jahseh? JAHSEH?" Stokeley called. Just then, the door burst open and Stokeley saw Jahseh crying on the floor in the bathroom. He picked the boy up and gave him a hug. Jahseh cried into his chest.

"I'm sorry." was all Stokeley said.

"It's fine." Jahseh said, pulling away from the hug.

Stokeley paused. "Is it true..?" he said.

"No, but it doesn't matter how many times I tell people that. Nobody listens." Jahseh said wile sniffling and his voice breaking.

"Even if it was true, you know that doesn't matter to me right? That doesn't have anything to do with our friendship. You could eat cats for dinner everyday or something but i wouldn't care. That doesn't define you as a person. You're a human just like everyone else in this school." Stokeley said.

Jahseh nodded. "Thank you, Stokeley."

"No problem." he got off of the floor and held his hand out to help the boy up.

"Friends?" Stokeley asked him.

"Friends." Jahseh half-smiled.
