'KEYS, KEYS, keys. Where did I put them?'One of the biggest reasons Lucy didn't want me living by myself is that because I wasn't lucky enough with full amnesia I also forget where I put things ninety percent of the time. I think that's just a personal trait though, not one that was brought on by the accident.
'Oh, there you are!' I grab my keys off the side of my three seater couch and rush out the door. I'm not running late yet but I would like to be early for my first day at the studio. While I'm driving I think back to the other day at Alex and Dom's place. I didn't stay for too long as it was three am and all but I never did find out where I knew David from. I might of just seen him around in my two days in L.A leading up to me meeting him formally. Everyone was nice though, we talked a little about what it was like living in L.A. and Alex said that if I ever needed anything I was welcome to ask him or Dom for help. I might ask Alex for help but Dom... Maybe not.
I pulled into the street parking outside the studio. They said they'd give me a key to the basement on my first day, so, I'll guess I'll get it soon. I hop out of my car and walk into the front office, I tell the receptionist my name. She was wearing a name badge that said Tara.
'Oh yes! You're early but the studio is ready. You can go in and wait for the producers.' She smiles. She leads me through a door that was to my left and down a hall. There's about three doors and she takes me to the last one on my right.
'Just take a seat they shouldn't be long.'
'Thank you so much.' The room is smaller than I thought. It has a small couch and an arm chair, sectioned off behind a great glass wall is where I assume we will do the recording? I'm not very familiar with studios, I'm not very familiar with anything really.
After about ten minutes the door opens and two middle aged men walk in. They're holding three coffee cups. They must be waiting on someone else.
'Hi Aspen, is it?' One of them starts. He is about average hight for a man his age, maybe 5'9? He wears thick rimmed glasses and a white t-shirt and dark blue jeans. He has a faded red flannel on over the top of his shirt. He hands me a coffee cup. 'I didn't know what you liked so I brought you a cappuccino.' He smiles.
'Oh, thank you so much! You didn't have to, but I do like cappuccinos.' I laugh.
'I'm Derek and this is Adam.' He gestures to the blonde man next to him. He's a bit shorter than Derek. He wears a black hoodie and black jeans with converse on. He looks to be about the same age as Derek.
'Hi, it's nice to meet you.' I smile.
Adam shuts the door and they both sit in the couch in front of me as I occupy the arm chair.
'So we got your demos,' Adam begins. He's British. 'They're amazing. Me and Derek jumped at the opportunity to work with you.' I blush. These guys are so nice. I worked really hard on making these songs my own. As I couldn't remember the events that lead to me writing them.
'Before we start, could you tell us a little about yourself? Why you're here?' Derek asks. I guess these guys are my bosses, I can't see the harm in telling them.
'Uh, yeah. It's a long story but I'll try make it short.' I start as I put my coffee down on the small table next to me. 'About six-ish months ago I was in a really bad car accident. I almost didn't make it. I was in a coma for a month and when I woke up I couldn't remember one thing that had ever happened to me. Full blown amnesia.' Both of their eyes go wide.
'It took me a long time to adjust back to some type of regular life, I didn't know my family or my friends. It was really hard. I found these songs that I had written before the crash and it gave me a little insight into what I was like before I lost my memory. I dedicated all of my free time to reworking these songs into works of art that I love and it kind of gave me my faith back so, I sent demos out to every record company I could find on google and... here I am.' I finish.
'Wow, that's... definitely not what I thought you were gonna say.' Derek laughs, I join in. I'm glad he wasn't scared to make a joke.
'Yeah, it's been rough but it kind makes everything more worthwhile, ya know?' I sigh.
'Yeah, I can imagine. Now, lets make some great music!'
...
'Aspen!' I hear someone shout at me from across the parking lot. I just pulled into the basement at home. I turn around and spot David, he's standing next to a white car that I can only assume is his.
'Oh hi, David.' I say as I walk over to him. He's parked in the visitor parking that's near the elevator. 'You going to visit Alex and Dom?' I ask him. I don't know why else he would be here.
'Yeah I am, I need to get some footage from them.' He walks next to me and presses the up button to the lift. Footage?
'Footage?' I voice my thoughts. He laughs.
'Right, I forgot not everyone knows who I am.' I furrow my eyebrows. Huh? 'I'm a Youtuber, I-uh-make videos and put them on youtube for a living.' He smiles. The door opens with a ding and we both get into the lift pressing number 8.
'What do you mean "I forget not everyone knows who I am"' I ask.
'Oh, well I have a large following. I kind of sound like an asshole when I say that.' He laughs. I crack a smile at his laugh even though I'm majorly confused, his laugh is contagious.
'So you're famous?'
'Kinda, I guess. I don't really see myself as famous but I guess, technically, I am.' Me and David exit the elevator and walk to our seperate doors.
'Hmm, maybe I'll have to check you out.' I joke as I slid my key into the slot. David leans against his friends door and laughs a little laugh, tongue between his teeth. He eyes me up and down before saying,
'I'd like that.'
