'I REALLY don't think that's how it works.' I'm laughing so hard. I'm at Davids house with his friends. Somehow I ended up here at one am and I'm amusing all of the drunk people. The only ones that aren't drinking are David and I. Everyone here is really nice and welcoming, David really is famous. I haven't had the time to social media stalk him but just by the size of the house I can tell. He must make a lot of money. We're all sitting in his lounge room and Alex told them I write songs, so now they're trying to convince me to sing one.'Come on! Just one, please?' Zane is on his knees in front of me begging, 'We'll all turn around so it's not even a big deal.' I laugh at his desperation.
'That's not the problem, they just aren't finished! You'll be the first to hear when they are.' I smile. It's true. Maybe before I met Derek and Adam, but now I know that they have so much potential and the songs we are working on are going to be amazing when they are finished.
'Fine! Whatever, but I'm keeping you to that promise!' He holds his hand out to shake and I grab it. They all break off into little conversations, I take a sip of my water and David comes and plops down next to me.
'I wanna hear your songs when they're finished too.' He whispers to me. I smile at him and nod.
'Of course.'
'How are you liking L.A.?' David continues the conversation.
'It's good, I've had a lot of fun whilst I've been here and I like living alone.' It's true. I'm not suffocated anymore by everyone breathing down my neck.
'Don't you like your family?' He asks as he scoots a little closer to me.
'Yeah I do, they're great it's just, they worry about me a lot and for things that have no point stressing over. I talk to them every week but it's nice having distance.' I explain.
'What do they stress over? Were you a reckless teen?' David laughs. I smile back. I don't know.
'It's a long story, one I'm not ready to get into tonight. But some other time I'll let you know, okay?' I sigh. David nods and wraps me in a side hug, obviously sensing my discomfort of the subject.
'Whenever you're ready.' He whispers.
I want to tell him, I do. I trust not only David but also Alex. But I just got away from everyone thinking of me as some medical mystery and I'm not ready to be seen like that again. I like how I feel around these people. I like making new friends, getting their phone numbers and making plans to hang out soon. I like that David makes me nervous and I don't know where to look when he's talking to me. I like being around him. Once I tell them about my past, or lack of knowledge of it, I'm different. Again. I'm just not quite ready.
I break away from Davids comforting little hug and smile at him. My eyes dart around the room and I catch Alex's stare. Once he sees I've spotted him he wiggles his eyebrows up and down. I just laugh. Maybe my little crush on David isn't so subtle after all.
