For Ana's 11th birthday, she got a doll. The doll was named Katy. Ana's dad got it from a Garage sale, saying the person who sold it to Him called him "Crazy" for buying that doll.
It was worth it.
Ana bought that doll everywhere. Her mother would spend hours at the sewing machine making cute outfits for Katy. All sorts of colors, while her father worked on a small bed and mini closet out of wood for Katy. Ana would go to the supermarket and the mall with Katy and even bought her to her cousins wedding with a white dress that was made in 7 hours by her mother.
A year passed and Ana's brother, Andy, decided to give Ana a talk about her doll.
"Ana, you're 12 and you have a freakin doll. Your going into 7th grade, that's the start of middle school!" Snapped Andy.
"Whatever, mind your own business, Katy now hates you." Ana said and held Katy tightly to her chest. Now, Katy was a pretty doll. Brown curly hair in 2 pig tails held by red and white ribbon with a red dress and white knee high socks with black shoes. Katy was known for having 'gorgeous eyes', as Ana's mother would say. It was crystal color of light baby blue. It was piercing and bright and gave Andy a cold feeling. Her skin was clean and her cheeks were a soft pink color.
"The doll is annoying, you carry that stupid thing everywhere! You even carry it in school in your backpack! Ana, grow up," Andy said and rolled his eyes.
Ana huffed. "You can't stop me,"
Andy glared at his crazy sister and ignored her and walked away.
That night, while Ana was sleeping, Andy got a surprise.
The door creaked open while Andy was in bed watching a movie. The hallway light spilled into his room, showing a shape on his wall.
"Ana go to bed" Andy snapped and continued to watch the scary movie.
The door opened a bit bigger. Andy sucked his teeth and got up and flew the door open.
Nothing. Only the yellow ness of the hallway light. Andy went down the hall and into Ana's room. She was fast asleep In her bed, snuggled up. Andy relaxed a little and went back into his room.
Andy turned off the TV and climbed into bed. He felt soft hair on his feet.
Andy jumped out his skin and yanked the covers off. And there she was.
Katy.
Andy screamed and fell out of his bed. Katy turned her head slowly. From down the hall, you could hear multiple footsteps.
"ANDY!" His mother screamed. Andy was speechless. He pointed at the doll and his finger trembled. The doll was on the bed, her arms up to the ceiling and her feet down. Her facial expression with a smile and she wasn't... Moving. "Andy, what happened?" Ana asked in a small voice.
Andy's face was red as he glared at his sister. "Are you stupid, Anabelle?" Andy spat. Ana felt small.
"DO NOT CALL YOUR SISTER THAT!" Father yelled. "That doll! It was moving! It was in my bed! I felt it. And it opened my door!" Andy explained.
Mother rolled her eyes and looked at Ana, "Did you put Katy in your brothers bed?"
Ana looked innocent and her soft green eyes were starting to turn glassy. She was going to cry.
Great!, thought Andy. "No. Never!" Ana said. "Your sister looks like she wouldn't have done it. Are you framing her, Andy?" Father asked. Andy looked furious. "I AM NOT. WHY WOULD I FRAME ANA FOR THAT? IT MOVED! GET IT OUT OF MY ROOM!" Andy yelled.
"Watch your Tone." Mother warned. The parents left and so did Ana and Katy. Ana had Katy over her shoulder, making Katys face directly at Andy. Andy could've sworn that at the corner of Katys mouth, a smile has formed.
~4 years passed~
Ana is 16 years old. She stopped bring Katy to school at age 13 when a girl named Jayleen threatened to take Katy and cut off her hair and burn her. Of course this threat scared Ana so she left Katy on her high shelf, next to baby pictures. Ana used to spend her time having small talks and tea parties with Katy, now with her on the shelf she's nothing but collecting dust. The last time Ana really played with her was when Katy and Ana were watching a show and eating popcorn. Katy was wearing a small lace white dress with white sandals, her hair smoothed out and with a bow in it. Ana loved that outfit so much. She could keep Katy in that outfit for days or even months. But this time it was years. The dress was worn out and turned a dirty white color while her hair was frizzy, her once clean skin was covered in dust and she lost the color to her cheeks. Ana would barely pay attention to it. Andy was in college now, leaving only Ana and her parents. Andy never recalled the incident that happened more then 2 years ago when Katy appeared in Andys bed, ready to kill. Ana and her parents have forgotten it in a split second.
Ana would always have volleyball practice or be out with friends so she was barely home. Katy seemed to get jealous. Ana bought over her best friend, Rayna who noticed Katy the first thing Ana welcomed her into her room.
"That thing looks old," Rayna said and pointed to Katy. Ana laughed, "I know right. Can't you believe I actually played with her when I was younger? She's looks so worn out. I left her on that shelf and haven't touched her since."
The girls dropped the subject and got into talking about boys and the latest news. And Katy listened to every word they said.
That same night, Ana was fast asleep. She heard a thump. Like something has fallen. Ana was half asleep and rolled herself out of bed. Ana walked halfway across her room, in the dark. That is until she tripped and fell over a hard object. Ana shrieked and fell, landing on her hands. "Nice fall, Ana" She said to herself and rushed to turn on the light.
And there was Katy. Standing up with a crooked smile. Ana threw a hand over her mouth to keep in a scream.
"Go back to sleep.." Katy said, but her mouth didn't move. It was just there. The voice. Ana fell into the wall. "Go back to sleep.." Katy repeated. Ana made a run for it, down the stairs and into the kitchen. "It's a dream. It's a dream. It's a dream. Wake up, Anabelle." Ana chanted and splashed some cold ice water on her face.
Nothing. She was awake and it wasn't a dream. "Go back to sleep.." Katy said.
"It makes sense now.." Ana muttered, remembering Andy. "I said.. Go .. Back.. To sleep.. No one will hurt..you." Katy said. Ana slowly turned around, facing a knife holding Katy.
The bloodcurdling scream was heard from throughout the neighborhood.
~5 years later~
Andy is back home, now 24 years old and is a father. Andy and his girlfriend and his daughter lives with his parents. "Are you guys ready?" Father has asked. Andy nodded. Today was the yard sale, selling anything that was garbage and plus they needed the money.
"Excuse me, young man. Do you work here? Said an old woman to Andy. Andy flashed a smile, "Yes. How am I help you?"
The old woman held up the doll.
The doll that almost killed Andy. And the doll Andy believed that killed Ana. People called it a suicide attempt. Why would Ana kill herself? No one knows and even the parents believe it's a suicide attempt, saying her hand was firmly grasped on the knife that was lounged into her stomach. After that, no one touched her room for 5 straight years till now for the yard sale.
"where did you find that?" Andy asked and snatched the doll from the woman's hands. "It was in that box over there," the woman said and pointed to the box across the yard on a table. Andy huffed and simply threw the doll out in the garbage. "The garbage will come in the morning." Andy told himself, satisfied.
But what could happen in the 24 hours before the garbage truck came?
